Project Officer (Educational Research – LEAN4 Integration in Mathematics Teaching)

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.
The Project Officer will support a research project investigating the impact of integrating LEAN4 into university mathematics lectures and course materials. The project aims to evaluate how the use of formal proof assistants can enhance students' understanding, engagement, and learning outcomes.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator to design and conduct educational interventions, collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data, and contribute to the dissemination of research findings through academic publications.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the design and implementation of studies evaluating the integration of LEAN4 into mathematics teaching.
Coordinate data collection from classroom activities, surveys, assessments, and other research instruments.
Perform statistical analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions.
Prepare reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication in educational and pedagogical research journals.
Support the development and refinement of teaching materials incorporating LEAN4.
Perform other research-related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a closely related discipline.
Excellent written and communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in designing, conducting, and analysing statistical studies or educational trials.
Experience authoring or contributing to peer-reviewed publications in pedagogy, mathematics education, or related educational research.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
Familiarity with LEAN4, formal verification, mathematics education, or educational technology would be an advantage.
