Bancassurance Product Manager - Responsible for the end-to-end product strategy, development, governance and performance of insurance products distributed through the bank’s channels. The role ensures insurance offerings are commercially successful, compliant with regulatory requirements, aligned with customer needs and well-integrated with the bank’s broader wealth strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Portfolio Management

  • Define and execute the insurance product strategy aligned with the bank’s overall wealth strategy for both sales assisted and digital channels

  • Manage a portfolio of insurance products across categories:

  • Life and savings

  • Health and medical

  • General insurance (e.g. travel, motor, home)

  • Protection and Legacy solutions

  • Conduct market, competitor, and customer analysis to identify gaps and opportunities

  • Drive product rationalisation and lifecycle management, including enhancements, repricing or product exits

Product Development & Launch

  • Lead the end-to-end product development process from concept to launch

  • Partner with insurance companies to:

  • Design product features, benefits, pricing, and underwriting terms

  • Responsible for incentive programme and commercial arrangements

  • Develop product documentation, including product approval and evaluation

  • Coordinate product approvals across Risk, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Finance

  • Oversee product launches across sales assisted and digital channels

Regulatory, Risk & Governance

  • Ensure full compliance with:

  • Local insurance and banking regulations

  • Fair Dealing Outcomes,

  • Product suitability for customer segment

  • Ongoing product reviews and risk assessments

  • Manage interactions with Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit on product-related matters

  • Monitor regulatory developments and recommend product or process changes as required

Sales Enablement & Distribution Support

  • Partner with distribution teams to:

  • Translate product features into clear customer value propositions

  • Design sales flows and customer journeys

  • Support training for sales staff

  • Develop sales tools and marketing materials for respective customer segments

Performance Management & Analytics

  • Track and analyse product performance including:

  • Sales volumes and revenue

  • Persistency and lapse ratios

  • Customer complaints

  • Identify underperforming products and implement corrective actions

  • Prepare management reports and presentation slides for senior stakeholders

  • Drive continuous improvement based on data, insights, customer feedback, and front office input

Stakeholder & Partner Management

  • Act as the primary product interface between the bank and insurance partners

  • Manage senior internal stakeholders across the banks

  • Participate in strategic discussions to drive the business strategy

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline (Professional insurance or financial services qualifications are an advantage).

  • 10 - 20 years of experience in insurance (Life and General Insurance), bancassurance or financial services. Added advantage if there is prior experience in a product leadership role.

  • Demonstrated success in end-to-end insurance product lifecycle management - from ideation and involvement in pricing to product launch, preferably in a bancassurance model.

  • Strong P&L accountability driving higher value products to achieve the right product mix.

  • Proven track record in managing different customer segments for insurance (Branch, Affluent, Private Banking).

  • Extensive experience in engaging and partnering senior bank stakeholders (EXCO, C-suite, country heads, retail/wealth leadership) to drive strategic initiatives.

  • Hands-on experience navigating regulatory approvals, product governance and compliance for product approval and day to day running of the insurance business.

  • Experience in digitization initiatives aimed at enhancing the product suite, sales process and improving the customer experience.  

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong strategic mindset with a proven ability to execute under pressure.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and influencing skills, balancing bank and insurer priorities.

  • Deep understanding of bancassurance operating models, sales processes and regulatory environment.

  • Strong self-leadership and people management to drive business outcomes.

  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity with astute judgement call with a solutions-oriented mindset.
