Staff Software Engineer, Lending

As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll architect, design, and build secure, scalable systems that power Airwallex’s lending platform and enable seamless, compliant credit experiences for enterprise clients and their users. You’ll design and maintain robust services and APIs that allow clients to embed and consume credit products within their own offerings, while building the technical foundation for future financing products.

• Lead design reviews, advise on systems architecture, and mentor engineers to raise the bar for code quality and technical excellence.

• Champion resilient distributed-systems design, automated testing, observability, and engineering practices that improve platform reliability, scalability, security, and delivery efficiency.

• Build and maintain secure, scalable, well-documented APIs that enable clients to embed and consume credit products within their own offerings.

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver effective lending solutions and support the platform’s continued expansion into new financing products.

You’ll work from our Singapore office five days a week.

• A bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Seven or more years of hands-on software engineering experience, with strong exposure to modern engineering practices, continuous integration, and quality engineering.

• At least two years in a technical leadership role, mentoring engineers and leading the definition and execution of engineering strategy.

• Strong computer science foundations and object-oriented programming skills, with proven experience building backend systems. We primarily use Java or Kotlin and the Spring / Spring Boot framework, but we’re open to engineers coming from other language backgrounds.

• Extensive experience designing and building RESTful APIs, with familiarity with modern API design principles and tools.

• Experience with domain-driven design and event-driven architectures in production environments.

• A proven track record of designing and maintaining high-throughput, low-latency, highly available distributed systems at scale.

• Cloud experience with GCP or AWS, including services such as EC2, RDS, ELB, or CloudFront, plus Docker and Kubernetes.

• Familiarity with observability tooling such as Splunk, Grafana, and Prometheus.

• Experience leading technical direction, making sound architectural trade-offs, and partnering effectively with cross-functional teams.

• Experience in financial services, lending, payments, or credit products.

• Experience building SaaS products offered as a platform.

• Experience designing systems for embedded finance or enterprise clients.

• You're comfortable owning the roadmap yourself.

• You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken.

• You're comfortable with ambiguity. Give you a problem, not a prescription, and you'll run with it.

• You communicate clearly and directly across cultures, and you're thoughtful about how context shifts meaning across borders.

• You're low-ego. You care more about the right outcome than getting credit for it.
