Job Description

MISSION:

The Regional Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing expert legal and regulatory advice to our Hong Kong branch and also in respect of Coface operations in the Asia Pacific. This role demands a thorough understanding of both local and international laws, regulations, and compliance requirements related to the trade credit insurance industry, business information and debt collection. The Regional Legal Counsel shall have a direct reporting line to the Coface General Counsel, Asia Pacific. The ideal candidate will ensure that our operations comply with the relevant legais standards and will support the business in minimizing legal risks

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide legal advice on a wide range of issues, including compliance matters, corporate governance, contract law (in particular insurance contract wording), and regulatory compliance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and policies.
  • Keep abreast of changes in legislation and provide timely updates to management on potential impacts to the business.
  • Advise on and ensure compliance with local and international trade credit insurance, business information and debt collection regulations.
  • Manage and mitigate legal risks in all areas of the company’s operations.
  • Represent the company in legal proceedings and liaise with external legal counsel as necessary.
  • Conduct legal research and provide training and guidance to staff on legal matters.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of legal policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • A qualified lawyer with a valid practicing certificate in Hong Kong or another common law jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Hong Kong and international trade credit insurance regulations.
  • Proven experience in contract drafting, negotiation, and corporate governance.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Mandarin and/or other Asian languages is an advantage
