Ocean Global Stowage Planning is an integral function in the Ocean Container Logistic division of Maersk. Considered the final piece among the various cogs that come together to provide a seamless end-to-end experience for our customers, stowage team designs the plans to maximize the economy of shipping and safety on board.
We are seeking a Head of Regional Stowage Planning for Africa and Intra-Europe Feeder trades, who will lead the planning team responsible for stowage operations across Asia-Africa, Africa, and Intra-Europe feeder networks. This role focuses on enhancing operational efficiency, driving cost-effectiveness, and ensuring reliable customer delivery, while also streamlining processes and building a high-performing team aligned with the organization’s strategy and culture. The successful candidate will lead both onsite and virtual teams across diverse geographical locations, managing a multicultural workforce with strong leadership and collaboration skills.

Key responsibilities

Strategic Vision and Direction

  • Define mid/long-term vision and strategic directions for the global stowage organization aligned with company objectives.

  • Set goals and KPI targets aligned with business objectives.

Innovation and Change Management

  • Drive innovation and change management (technology adoption, new ways of working, new policies).

  • Continuously seek new ideas and adapt to changing markets.

Work Environment and Team Performance

  • Create a work environment that embraces Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

  • Build an engaged and high-performing team while driving business outcomes.

Resource Management

  • Manage and oversee the allocation of resources (SGA finances, personnel, and technology) to ensure efficient operations.

Asset Utilization and Deployment

  • Develop plans to ensure healthy vessel intake and utilization.

  • Work with deployment and network teams to deploy suitable vessels for the trade, considering vessel characteristics for the trade’s cargo mix.

Stakeholder Relationships and Collaboration

  • Build rapport and relationships with stakeholders (center, regions, port operators, vendors, partners, SMDG community).

  • Develop cross-team collaboration on strategic projects, drive process excellence, and help clear roadblocks.

Business Continuity Planning

  • Design business continuity plans (business and people) through constant review of existing/new policies (IMDG/in-house safety rules).

  • Ensure compliance and create a personnel succession pipeline.

We’re looking for

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in any relevant field

  • Stowage planning experience is highly advantageous

  • Around 8 years of experience in the maritime industry, particularly in liner / terminal / network operations, Strong understanding of vessel characteristics, network knowledge, terminal operations and cargo mix influence on vessel intake

  • Recent experience in leadership for multi-cultural team

  • Ability to work well in a matrix organization

  • Excellent communication

  • Possess good commercial acumen
