Job Description

We are looking for Lead Urban Planner in Singapore

Why do we need you?

To continue our journey of creativity, innovation, and setting best practice, we are looking for an experienced Lead Urban Planner - someone who brings planning rigour, cross-disciplinary fluency, and a genuine belief that the most compelling cities are shaped by their ground, to join our Landscape and Urbanism team in our Singapore studio. You will take ownership of complex master planning and urban design commissions, helping to advance a practice where planning strategy and ecological thinking are inseparable.

What will you be doing?

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Establishing and growing the Urbanism practice within Henning Larsen Singapore, building team capability, defining ways of working, and positioning the studio as a leading voice in regenerative urbanism across the APAC region.
  • Actively pursuing new commissions and building the studio's market presence, identifying opportunities, leading bid strategies, preparing submissions, and cultivating relationships with clients, agencies, and potential project partners.
  • Managing projects from concept to completion, including planning strategy, urban design development, documentation, and implementation coordination.
  • Overseeing project timelines, budgets, and deliverables while coordinating with internal interdisciplinary teams and external stakeholders including public agencies, architects, engineers, and specialist consultants.
  • Leading the preparation of masterplan documentation, design guidelines and urban design frameworks.
  • Serving as a key client contact, managing relationships and ensuring planning solutions align with project aspirations, regulatory requirements, and broader design objectives.
  • Presenting and communicating planning concepts effectively to clients, government agencies, and project partners.
  • Leading stakeholder engagement processes, integrating community, agency, and technical perspectives into planning frameworks.
  • Guiding and mentoring junior team members, providing technical knowledge, design critique, and career development support.
  • Working closely with interdisciplinary teams, ensuring seamless integration of landscape architecture with urbanism, architecture, and engineering.
  • Driving the incorporation of ecological, social, and technological innovations, including data-driven economic and spatial analysis and emerging planning tools into projects.

Qualifications

What are we looking for?

As our new Lead Urban Planner we anticipate that you have:

  • A postgraduate degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Urbanism, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in urban planning, urban design, or master planning, with a demonstrable track record of project leadership and experience working across multiple geographies - APAC exposure strongly preferred.
  • An established professional profile within the APAC planning and urban design community, evidenced through speaking engagements, published work, award recognition, or active industry involvement.
  • A proven ability to lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in GIS (QGIS or ArcGIS) and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Proficiency with data visualisation, urban analytics, and 3D modelling tools such as Rhino.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in another APAC language is an advantage.
  • Singapore Institute of Planners (SIP) membership or eligibility, or equivalent regional accreditation.
  • Singapore PR or Citizenship, or eligibility to work in Singapore.

As a member of Henning Larsen, we anticipate that you are:

  • Proactive, ambitious, and hungry to grow; someone who takes initiative, seeks out opportunities, and brings energy and drive to everything they touch.
  • Committed to excellence and professionalism at every stage of the planning and design process.
  • Collaborative by instinct, with genuine curiosity about landscape, ecology, and urbanism, and the agility to work fluidly across disciplines.
  • A developing mentor, invested in the growth of junior colleagues and conscious of the culture you help create around you.
  • Motivated by climate-responsive, regenerative, and data-driven thinking, and determined to bring that into your work.
