What It's Like to Work at Adyen

Adyen Employee Reviews

I always feel encouraged to speak up, ask questions, and share a solution. I am not restricted to just sit in front of a screen and program; I interact with product managers, account managers, tech support, and pricing analysts to the point where I can put myself in their shoes and understand their perspectives and issues as well.

The best thing about working at Adyen is the people. I think this is through a combination of prioritizing hiring smart, capable people, but also through creating and supporting a culture where those people are given the trust and flexibility to do their best work, and genuinely encouraging those people to connect.

People genuinely make time for you, even across time zones. Many little things make Adyen special, from team-building trips/events to knowledge-sharing sessions. It's a place where you can do meaningful work, learn from amazing people, and still have room to breathe.

This role has pushed me to grow both as a leader and as an engineer. Professionally, I’ve expanded my skills in strategic thinking, team management, and cross-functional collaboration, while staying hands-on with development.

Working at Adyen has pushed me to grow both professionally and personally. The pace and critical thinking here have challenged me to develop sharper judgment, prioritize better, and become more confident in my decision-making. As a team lead, it's been rewarding to help shape and scale the org.

What sets Adyen apart is how tangible the company values are; they are not just words on a wall, but how we operate daily. We truly build trust by empowering every team member to make good choices and create their own path.

There are so many talented engineers here with a true passion for development, and there are plenty of opportunities to learn from them. I’ve learned from the engineers in Chicago, but also from those I've met in Amsterdam and from all over the world.

Adyen is one of the more diverse companies I’ve worked for. There are so many different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences amongst the teams. I truly feel like I can “bring my full self” to work. Within my own team, we’re still just forming; but so far my favorite thing is that our team is seen as the “connectors” across the Operations organization.

Adyen's culture is truly unique. I left the nonprofit world because I was exhausted by the scarcity mindset - not enough money, not enough time, not enough ideas, not enough people. Adyen operates entirely on an abundance mindset. There is always time and resource to scope out a new idea, and an eagerness to chart new paths. Failure is never frowned upon, fingers are never pointed. I've seen amazing, groundbreaking things happen here in the course of a few weeks that would have been stuck in committee for years at other places.

I've gained experience working with global, distributed teams in my day-to-day, and I'll continue that experience with a Business Exchange in Amsterdam. Adyen helped me feel more confident in my voice - from contributing more in project discussions, to leading onboarding for team members new to Adyen, to hosting a coffee chat with our CTO and Head of Sales, Digital & UC at our annual NA event.

Adyen is truly a diverse company. We're a diverse working group with different backgrounds, opinions, and experiences that all come together to help continue to grow the Adyen footprint. I also really enjoy the fact that we value face to face communication. Many times in my career I have seen ant hills turn into mountains because poor communication. Being able to sit down and discuss an issue really ensures problems are addressed quickly.

I’ve had the chance to expand my skills in ways that have helped me take real ownership of my career. It’s refreshing to work somewhere that not only supports you but also gives you the tools and opportunities to truly succeed and grow.

What I value the most about the culture here is the emphasis on making connections and maintaining them. I really enjoy going to the office to work alongside my peers; other places I've worked have never focused on the importance of people connecting.

What I value most about Adyen’s culture is the ownership people have and the trust that comes with it. As an Implementation Engineer, you’re able to take things end-to-end, whether that’s working through integrations or helping a merchant go live. At the same time, there’s a strong sense of collaboration, and people are always willing to jump in and help when needed. Communication is also very direct and open, which makes it easier to move quickly and solve problems. Compared to other places I’ve worked, it feels more connected and focused on doing things the right way.
