MUFG Bank is seeking a Vice President to join their Balance Sheet Strategy and Treasury Management team in Singapore. What you'll do:
As Vice President, Balance Sheet Strategy and Optimization based in Singapore, you will be entrusted with supporting the Head of Balance Sheet Strategy in driving forward initiatives that optimise interest rate risk positions and securities investment portfolios. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve analysing market conditions to identify growth opportunities, evaluating financial performance across multiple jurisdictions, monitoring regulatory developments, advising senior leaders on strategic risks and opportunities, building relationships with key clients for new business generation, anticipating customer needs to keep the organisation ahead of competitors, fostering robust stakeholder engagement internally and externally, collaborating across regions for best practice sharing, addressing asset liability management challenges through partnership with various teams including product offices and branch managers, promoting innovative solutions for liquidity improvement such as market debt issuance or liability product structuring, coaching less experienced team members on complex issues while acting as a role model for company policies. Your success in this role will be measured by your ability to integrate these diverse responsibilities into a cohesive strategy that supports both immediate operational goals and long-term organisational vision.
Support the Head of Balance Sheet Strategy in formulating departmental plans focused on managing interest rate risk positions (IRRBB) and securities investment portfolios across the Asia and Oceania region.
Work closely with relevant stakeholders on FTP setting, development, application and enhancements, advise line of business stakeholders on product pricing trends and market pricing movements
Conduct thorough analysis of competitive market landscapes to inform allocation and tracking of balance sheet capacity, ensuring alignment with optimal growth opportunities.
Assist in achieving departmental profit and loss targets by evaluating financial performance and forecasts throughout the region, through ownership of Securities Investment strategy and IRRBB positioning.
Monitor economic trends and regulatory changes, providing timely advice on their impact to senior management.
Advise management on emerging financial opportunities as well as potential risks, helping shape strategic decisions.
Build effective relationships with key customers to foster new business development and deliver high-quality service standards.
Anticipate shifting customer expectations, guiding the department towards measures that maintain competitiveness in a dynamic market.
Develop strong stakeholder management practices with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless collaboration.
Work closely with colleagues across all regions to share best practices and deliver integrated services for customers.
Collaborate with regional offices, product divisions, head office treasury groups, branch managers, and other relevant parties to address asset liability management issues, comply with regulations, minimise funding costs globally, promote products, create business opportunities, and drive liquidity improvement strategies.
What you bring:
To excel as Vice President within Balance Sheet Strategy and Optimization you will bring extensive experience gained from global financial institutions where you have developed advanced skills in treasury operations. Your background should include exposure to Funding and Liquidity markets and products, IRRBB calculation and metrics, FTP and Securities Investments management functions with proficiency in foreign currency financing. You will possess strong analytical capabilities enabling you to assess complex financial data sets while maintaining sensitivity towards evolving regulatory requirements. Your interpersonal strengths will shine through your ability to communicate persuasively with diverse audiences—whether presenting recommendations to senior executives or coaching junior colleagues through challenging scenarios. A track record of successful leadership within multi-disciplinary teams will demonstrate your commitment to nurturing talent while fostering an inclusive environment built on trust. Additionally your technical acumen regarding interest rate risk management regulations (IRRBB), funds transfer pricing methodologies (FTP), internal pricing benchmarks plus familiarity with local liquidity rules will ensure you can navigate both strategic planning discussions as well as operational execution seamlessly.
Degree qualification in Business, Finance or Economics is essential for this role.
Minimum 10 years’ experience working within Treasury or related functions at a global financial institution is required.
Minimum 7 years’ experience in treasury functions such as Securities Investment, FTP, IRRBB positioning, money market dealing, debt issuance, foreign/domestic currency financing management or secured financing instruments is necessary.
Exceptional communication skills are needed to influence stakeholders effectively and present compelling solutions.
Proven coaching, mentoring and leadership abilities are vital for managing team members successfully.
Demonstrated expertise in interest rate risk management (including IRRBB regulation), balance sheet management as well as profit/loss planning and medium-term strategy development is expected.
Experience setting FTP (Funds Transfer Pricing) benchmarks using deep knowledge of cash markets and FX pricing mechanisms is highly desirable.
Comprehensive understanding of local regulatory environments with particular focus on liquidity regulations is crucial for compliance purposes.
Ability to review external market interest rates accurately while recommending appropriate internal rates is important for optimising returns.
Familiarity with sophisticated transfer price frameworks designed to promote deposit business among corporate clients is advantageous.
