Purpose of the role

In this position, it is necessary to monitor accounting and tax governance and promote initiatives to enhance it in the APAC region. It is essential to communicate and lead strongly with the Tokyo accounting and tax team in Japanese, and to communicate with regional business units, support functions, and accounting and tax teams at branches in English. The role will be taking lead in the following initiatives:

  • Response of each branch to regulatory changes of global/region in tax, such as introducing Global minimum tax

  • Response of each branch to regulatory changes of global/region in accounting, such as IFRS projects of governance and system.

  • Enhance the governance of Transfer Pricing.

  • Launch of new initiatives to improve gouvenance of tax and accounting.

  • Report and consult on accounting and tax situations to Singapore management

Job Responsibilities:

  • Implement regional and global accounting and tax initiatives/projects in APAC to enhance governance and profitability

  • Provide strategic advice to management and promote initiatives for maintaining safety and soundness, and enhancing the mid-term financial and equity value of MUFG from an accounting and tax perspective

  • Develop and maintain strong stakeholder management with key stakeholders such as regional business units, support functions, and accounting/tax teams in branches.

  • Provide strategic advice on bank-wide projects and new initiatives to Accounting Departments, Business Units, and support functions in APAC from an accounting and tax perspective. Liaise between the Financial Accounting Office and relevant stakeholders to enhance accuracy and efficiency in financial reporting

  • Provide guidance and support to other POA members on tax and accounting matters.

  • Ensure the Bank’s operations/activities continue effectively during BCP situations

Job Requirements:

  • At least 7 years of experience in accounting and tax within the corporate banking industry

  • Experience in planning initiatives and project management

  • Minimum JLPT N1 Certification, a degree from a Japanese university or equivalent required to effectively communicate with Japanese stakeholders and senior management in Tokyo Head Office and across APAC on implementation of regional and global accounting and tax initiative

  • Proficient in English to lead projects within Singapore and Asia countries

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence others

  • Strong planning and negotiation skills, leadership abilities, and stakeholder management skills

  • Project management skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
