Staff Software Engineer:
Join Illumina’s Multi-Omics Software team within R&D and play a lead role in the design and development of cutting-edge next generation data and analysis platforms to unlock the power of the genome – to transform healthcare and beyond.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be part of an innovative, dynamic, and adaptive organization supporting new and on-market cloud-based products that streamline the generation, analysis, aggregation, and extraction of insights from data.
Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and optimize the performance of large-scale distributed systems with security and compliance in mind.
Build SaaS based commercial products to process and analyze terabytes of data
Own all aspects of implementation for features from design to development, deployment to production, and support and maintenance.
Writing clean, performant, and well-tested code
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and other operational issues in the cloud environment
Participate in code reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes

Key Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Minimum of 8 years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting highly scalable applications
Excellent Java development and debugging skills
Deep understanding of data architecture, system design, and scalability challenges
Proficient in building highly scalable services based on REST
Experience with front end technologies and/or front-end frameworks.
Knowledge of web libraries and frameworks such as Angular, React, Underscore
Proficient in various data stores: SQL, NoSQL, and/or key-value store
Experience with Cloud (AWS/Azure) based commercial systems.
Experience with production-quality services, deployment, monitoring, and reliability.
Experience with numerous aspects of DevOps, including source control, CI/CD, Kubernetes and containerized deployment.
Demonstrated willingness to teach others and learn new technologies.

Nice to Have:
Experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis (DNA, RNA, or multi-omics analysis.
Experience with data warehouse technologies (e.g., Iceberg, snowflake).
