Role Overview

As a Sr. Enterprise Systems Engineer at Cboe, you will design, engineer, and deliver enterprise infrastructure solutions that underpin both internal operations and customer-facing platforms across our global exchange network. In this senior individual-contributor role, you will be expected to own complex initiatives end-to-end — from architecture through delivery — and to serve as a Subject Matter Expert in at least one major infrastructure domain.

You will maintain the reliability, security, and scalability of enterprise systems while resolving complex technical issues and driving continuous improvement. Your scope includes Windows Server, VMware, Azure, and Microsoft 365 platforms, with a strong emphasis on automation, observability, DR readiness, and SOX-compliance across regulated environments.

The ideal candidate brings a strong engineering mindset combined with a service-delivery orientation - someone who can own complex incidents end-to-end, and communicate technical decisions clearly to peers and other stakeholders across multiple time zones. This role is a key node in Cboe's follow-the-sun support model, requiring sound judgment, proactive communication, and a high standard for operational discipline.

Major Job Duties

Infrastructure Design & Deployment

  • Design, architect, and deploy infrastructure solutions across Windows Server, VMware vSphere, Azure, and Microsoft 365 platforms
  • Ensure alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and security baselines
  • Lead architectural reviews and contribute to infrastructure roadmap discussions with leadership

System Administration & Support

  • Administer and troubleshoot core services: Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO, DFS, File Services, Exchange Server (on-prem and hybrid), SQL Server
  • Manage virtualisation platforms: VMware vSphere, Horizon VDI, and Azure Virtual Desktop
  • Manage PKI/certificate lifecycles; lead security hardening using Microsoft Defender, Conditional Access, and Rights Management
  • Serve as the regional escalation point for complex system issues that exceed L1/L2 resolution capacity

Incident Management & Problem Resolution

  • Own P1/P2 incidents end-to-end: lead code red calls, coordinate resolution, and participate in learning reviews & root cause analysis
  • Identify repeat incident patterns and drive permanent remediation through problem management processes
  • Maintain and contribute to a living knowledge base of known errors and workarounds

Automation & Observability

  • Automate system operations using PowerShell, Graph API, and IaC tools (Ansible, Terraform, Azure DevOps)
  • Build and maintain observability dashboards to proactively detect and resolve issues
  • Contribute reusable automation scripts and runbooks to the team knowledge base

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of hardware, software licenses, and configuration changes
  • Ensure compliance with SOX and other applicable regulatory frameworks
  • Develop and document repeatable processes and runbooks for cross-training and knowledge sharing

Disaster Recovery & Backup

  • Ensure high availability and DR readiness of all critical enterprise systems
  • Implement and manage backup strategies using Rubrik (or other); validate RTO/RPO through regular testing

Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Mentor and elevate junior and mid-level engineers; conduct structured knowledge-sharing sessions
  • Establish yourself as a Subject Matter Expert in at least one major infrastructure domain
  • Participate in on-call rotation including periodic daytime and infrequent weekend coverage

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies in cloud, identity management, automation, and AI-driven operations
  • Evaluate and recommend innovations for strategic adoption; produce business cases for leadership review
  • Track and report on technical debt; propose prioritised remediation plans tied to risk
  • Contribute to capacity planning inputs and the annual infrastructure roadmap
