The Diagnostics Product Team is responsible for developing products which meet the needs of patients who want to determine if they have sleep disorders such as sleep apnea or those who want to monitor their health while being treated.
Its output includes sensor technology, processing algorithms, and low energy, battery powered, wirelessly connected devices. It interacts with other related product teams such as mobile apps, server software and therapeutic device teams. It’s a fast growing area of Resmed’s ecosystem and one with incredible opportunity to directly benefit millions of patients.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will operate and lead within a project team and will be tasked with the responsibility to design, develop and verify new products from concept through to production in the most cost and time efficient manner whilst operating within ResMed Quality Standards.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will also mentor and guide less senior engineers, help drive process improvements and may be accountable for the overall design of product sub-systems.
Let’s talk about Responsibilities
You collaborate across the project team to efficiently define solutions and processes that deliver the greatest value for ResMed and meet our user’s needs.
You are aware of the interactions between systems in solving engineering problems in connected product solutions.
You work collaboratively with external suppliers and across teams and disciplines to achieve project objectives.
You provide guidance to the mechanical team to help them solve technical issues within a project.
You may mentor the engineering team in building technical capability, leadership, ownership and accountability.
You may research and develop new technologies in the team’s area of expertise.
You communicate effectively and proactively with peers and business stakeholders to report on project progress and to remove project roadblocks, acting with a solutions mindset.
You take ownership for your own technical growth and actively work to build your skills and competency.
You work within the regulated medical device environment, and advocate for best engineering and quality practice.
You ensure that ResMed engineering best practices and processes are adhered to in the delivery of your work and any projects or sub-systems you are responsible for.
You embody ResMed’s Core Competencies and exemplify ResMed’s values.
Technical competency
Owns and executes discipline design activities in a team at both component and sub-system level, and actively contributes to design architecture and innovative thinking.
Facilitates clear technical communication with peers, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the design process are considered. Aware of broader impacts, seeks input from beyond team/department
In depth knowledge of design & development process. Actively contributes to discipline specific process improvements and engineering quality culture
Anticipates problems with their own and others work, can use data available to make risk based technical decisions and solve problems using a structured approach.
Leadership
When finding an issue with another team, raises the issue skillfully with that team
Holds team accountable for their best possible effort
Offers constructive feedback on areas of broader scope
Thoughtful about process; proposes changes as needed for the whole team to execute more effectively
Innovation
Mentors less-experienced members of the team
Works with manager to actively grow their skills, furthers their technical education through reading, partnering with more senior members of the team
Helps identify team weaknesses and suggest solutions
Contributes in new ways of working across the team or project.
Team Players
Will identify and take on work from other members of the team if it is more important than "their" tasks
Can explain complex problems and solutions to people inside and outside their domain of expertise
Can effectively take on a technical leadership role on a smaller project
Customer Obsessed
Demonstrates some understanding of other parts of the company and areas of the business.
Demonstrates an understanding of the business context of their projects and how they would impact business and quality metrics
Demonstrates the ability to translate between business requirements and technical requirements
When discussing work, engages in discussion around business, patient and quality impact
Significant knowledge of product development process, including preparing documentation for the design history file
Significant knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes
Proficiency in 3D CAD (PTC – Creo products preferred)
Significant experience & application of simulation & analysis tools (e.g., Ansys, MoldFlow, Minitab)
Significant experience in test, verification and validation traced to requirements and in developing test/process measurement capabilities
Required:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent with significant experience in a product development role designing complex electro-mechanical systems.
Preferred:
Significant engineering experience within the medical industry
