Job Description

Position Summary:

A Scientist II, Bioinformatics individual you will support incoming custom assay development requests through Thermo Fisher’s web portal, Assay Design Hub. You will be involved in R&D projects aimed at improving performance of our products and releasing assays for new areas of application. Duties include qPCR/dPCR assay design, analyzing generated datasets, and communicating results to a wider multidisciplinary team. The individual will be working closely with other bioinformatics scientists, molecular biologists and systems engineers. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support custom request by designing Taqman assays using internal tools for various applications
  • Collaborate with R&D team members to support product development
  • Implement and maintain bioinformatics pipelines to support Taqman assay development
  • Troubleshoot and optimize assay performance with a team of molecular biologists

Education/Experience Requirements:

MS in bioinformatics, computational biology, or similar fields with 1-2 years of industry experience.

  • An independent individual with deep understanding of genomic sequence analysis
  • Proficient with command line, BASH, working on a server and good understanding on Linux environment
  •  Proficient with Python, R or any other relevant programming language
  • Familiar with open-source biological databases such as NCBI, UCSC, COSMIC, IMG
  • Able to perform basic bioinformatics tasks like sequence alignment, homology searches and analyzing large sets of sequence datasets.

Other Proficiencies

  • Prior experience in any of the following areas is a strong plus:
    • Oncology
    • Plant biology
    • Pharmacogenomics
    • Multi-omics analysis
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and geographically distributed team environment
