Research Engineer I / II (Computer Science / Artificial Intelligence)

The Alibaba-NTU Global e-Sustainability CorpLab (ANGEL) represents a key collaboration between Alibaba Group and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Supported by the Singapore RIE2025 Fund, ANGEL creates and deploys impactful green digital technologies for global sustainability.

The Research Engineer will conduct cutting-edge research on large language models (LLMs) for Southeast Asian languages. LLMs have demonstrated excellent performance on a large number of language and multimodal tasks. However, training LLMs on low-resource languages such as Malay, Thai, and Vietnamese remains a challenging problem. In this project, we aim to build LLMs that understand and respect SEA culture and customs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct research in the field of neural networks, natural language processing (NLP), and large language models (LLMs).

• Independently read and critically evaluate existing literature on NLP and LLMs. 

• Implement neural networks and carry out experiments under the guidance of a professor

• Write papers and present the research work to a wide audience

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field, with a focus on neural networks, natural language processing, or similar areas.

• Strong proficiency in C programming language.

• A strong curiosity for learning new concepts and exploring unsolved problems.

• Sharp observational skills, with the ability to notice details that others may miss.

• Resilience and determination to persevere through temporary setbacks.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English for research work.

• Strong teamwork abilities, a strong sense of responsibility, and excellent interpersonal skills.
