The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School’s primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.
We are looking for a Research Associate to work in mental health AI. The role will focus on development of novel multimodal AI models integrating speech, emotions, linguistics, alongside other key mental health modalities. You will also be required to participate in implementation science research pertaining to the deployment and efficacy testing of AI solutions. You will participate in grant and manuscript preparations and also participate in any high impact projects the group is currently working on.
Key Responsibilities:
De-identification of mental health speech transcripts
Design and extract text features for modelling ultra-high-risk outcomes
Design and improve existing multimodal machine learning frameworks for predicting ultra-high-risk outcomes
Implementation Science research --- including assistance in recruitment, administration of surveys, conducting AI enactment scenarios, analysis of data
Take care of the Lab’s computing infrastructure--- including GPU-enable units and HPC server
Manuscript and grant preparations --- for all research pertaining to mental health NLP and behavioral work. And to support grant administration, co-writing, and liaison with grant offices and administrative bodies.
Research protocol development --- including the development of LLM-prompt workflows, deep learning and training and optimization processes, data transformation and feature engineering.
AI model development --- training, development, deployment, post-deployment testing and monitoring of LLM and deep learning models pertinent to the mental health project.
Required educational qualification, experience, skills and competencies:
Master (for Research Associate equivalent) qualification degree in data science, AI, mental health, implementation science psychiatry discipline or related field
At least 1 years of relevant experiences in similar role / technical hands-on experience in data science and analytics
Familiarity with PDPA, Good Research Practice, NLP and linguistics analysis
Good written and oral communication skills (if applicable)
Proficiency in python, R, Tensorflow, ML, deep learning, LLMs, statistical modelling
Competent in soft skills / general personality traits e.g. information visualization, interaction design
Interpersonal skill (e.g. Ability to work independently / develop solutions under strict timelines, meticulous and eye for details / excellent organizational / time management skills)
