The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.

Position Available: Research Assistant, Plasma Physics for Fusion Energy

Key Responsibilities 

The project aims to develop and improve a three-dimensional, flux-driven, nonlinear two-fluid code for tokamak plasma simulations. The Research Assistant will be employed and based at NTU, and is expected to collaborate with scientific teams at UKAEA, UK.

  • Develop and implement improved physical models within a three-dimensional two-fluid simulation framework

  • Improve the numerical robustness, accuracy, and efficiency of the code

  • Perform verification and validation using analytical limits, benchmark problems, and reference simulations

  • Conduct nonlinear simulations to assess the consistency and performance of the implemented models

  • Contribute to code documentation, testing, and long-term maintainability

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics.

  • Familiar with computer sciences, HPCs, handling large amounts of data, and data analysis

  • Background in theoretical physics, with basic knowledge of plasma physics

  • Capability to work effectively in an international environment.
