The School of Biological Sciences (SBS), part of the College of Science at Nanyang Technological University, was established in 2002 with a mission to advance excellence in biological and biomedical sciences. The research group of Dr Sandip Basak at Nanyang Technological University has an opening for a Research Assistant position to perform high-quality research in the field of membrane proteins. The laboratory has expertise in the field of Ligand-Gated Ion Channels (Google scholar link).

Job Description

• Molecular biology, protein expression (preferably insect cells and/or mammalian cells), protein purification, and various biochemical techniques.

• Cryo-EM sample preparation, grid optimisation, high-resolution data collection, data processing using various software programs, data interpretation, 3D reconstruction, model building, and refinement.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree with substantial background in membrane protein expression and purification.

• A solid background in biochemistry/biophysics and structural biology.

• Prior experience in structural biology, particularly single-particle cryo-EM, and membrane protein expression and purification.

• Familiarity with major structural biology software programs.

• Experience in handling large-scale protein expression and purification.

• Good writing, presentation, and communication skills.

• A team-oriented attitude with good interpersonal skills, resourcefulness, self-motivation, and the ability to present data within the scientific community.
