Under Commodity Insight’s Market Reporting & Trading Solutions team, the Market Development & Engagement Group is an integral part of the price assessment content team and collaborates across all functions within Platts globally.
Focused on price assessment methodology development and deployment, the group oversees several core functions that support all pricing commodity teams including: regional leadership; methodology development, marketing reporting best practices, issues resolution, integrity and review of our MOC markets, and commodity market outreach and engagement. This role will serve as a key leader in the Price Group - methodology development function, which is responsible for the design of methodologies, and design and implementation of market reporting best practices, all aligned to deliver on our governance model based on our Editorial Standards.
The Impact: Global responsibility to drive methodology development and best practice in market reporting to augment Commodity Insights as best-in class for pricing information and data across the global commodity markets, focusing on the Established Benchmarks, which include the Oil, Generating Fuels, Metals and LNG sectors.
This includes:
Oversees a five-member team which collaborates across established commodity sectors in all aspects of methodology development and market reporting best practice.
Partners with commodity and regional pricing leadership and managers to drive global price assessment methodology development and ensure price assessment integrity throughout the process.
Represents Price Group in cross-functional projects and working groups and collaborates with other colleagues in Market Development & Engagement, particularly Market Integrity & Review and the Methodology Specialists as well as other functional groups internally resulting in the consistent execution of Platts methodology and the maintenance of robust price assessments.
Leads the instilling of market reporting best practices across their commodity groups through regular regional and global training sessions, in order to maintain rigorous standards and integrity in the Platts assessment process.
Partners with other PG leadership and commodity team management to ensure the curation of best practice documentation and training across the MRTS pricing group.
Mentors price reporting management teams and front-line editorial team members on such aspects as external messaging, by sharing experience, helping build trust with customers.
Ensures commodity reporting teams have a proper understanding of processes outlined and described in Platts governance model and aligned with the IOSCO Principles for Price Reporting Agencies and EBMR. The established benchmarks team accounts for nearly 20 European Benchmark Regulation in-scope benchmarks and roughly 1,500 IOSCO benchmarks globally.
Responsibilities:
Lead a global team of 5 methodology development/best practices specialists who drive the end-to-end development of price assessment and benchmarks, and who ensure establishment and socialization of market reporting best practices across regions and commodity sectors
Drive all aspects of methodology development including the conceptualization of new ideas, partnering senior management and regional teams that lead day-to-day market reporting and price assessment activities across the emerging/established segment.
Collaborate and advise on all aspects for methodology development for emerging and established pricing and benchmarks.
Promote best practices and adherence of editorial standards with other functional groups such as BCQ, News, Learning and Development, and other relevant stakeholders
Work with platform managers to represent Pricing perspective in building tools and dissemination of best practices for use of tools and facilitate communication on changes in Methodology Change Worfklow Tool
Support Market Integrity & Review team and pricing teams on a regional basis as necessary
Work closely with Strategic Engagement & Intelligence team to evolve messaging around methodology and to understand customer methodology questions and requirements.
Develop and structure methodology messaging both internally and externally, working closely with product management and the web team
Support maintenance and socialization of Best Practices Resource Page in SharePoint
Lead and maintain collateral around training
Advise commodity Sector heads and managers on best practices; along w/ documentation and training as needed.
Mentor frontline editors and demonstrate best practice in market reporting and implementation of methodology.
Report on high level metrics involving methodology change & development
Conduct independent price reviews upon request
Qualifications:
Proven strong interpersonal and relationship building skills and ability to influence across the organization
Tenacity and the ability to gain buy-in to decisions and drive issues to completion
Subject matter expert in commodities/trading/markets and the competitive landscape and specialized knowledge of at least one commodity sector and/or Platts pricing methodology.
Degree educated (business, finance, economics, etc..) with 4+ years in pricing with a broad knowledge of assessment methods and processes
Strong presentation skills to present to project stakeholders and to facilitate training
Previous management experience and strong leadership ability which utilizes influence and promotes team collaboration and development as well as personal accountability
Assertive and independent minded individual who operates with facts and pushes back with respect
