3. FinTech payments: Overcoming a key challenge for Entrepreneurs by offering digital banking services to new businesses

We are looking for a Payments Intern that is excited about the below Mission and Outcome.

Mission: To support the payments operations team by assisting with transaction monitoring, process optimization, and data-driven insights — ensuring smooth, compliant, and efficient payment flows for merchants and customers.

The Payments Intern will support the day-to-day operations, analysis, and continuous improvement of the payment product, the Sleek Business Account, within Sleek. The role is designed to give the intern hands-on exposure to transaction flows, reconciliation, payment systems, compliance requirements, and merchant support within a fast-paced financial technology environment.

Your role will be to:

• Assist in the monitoring, reconciliation, and settlement of daily payment transactions (card, bank transfer, digital wallets, etc.).
• Help investigate payment exceptions, delays, or discrepancies, and support resolution with internal teams or external partners (banks, acquirers, processors).
• Assist in preparing management insights on payment costs, revenue optimization, customer payment behavior.
• Learn and assist with the application of AML, KYC, PCI-DSS, and regulatory requirements in payment operations.
• Help maintain and review documentation for compliance audits or risk assessments.
• Map and document existing payment processes, identifying inefficiencies or manual dependencies.
• Work closely with the Product, Compliance, Customer Success, and Tech teams to ensure seamless payment journeys for our clients.
• Assist with any ad-hoc tasks.

To be applicable for this role,  you will need to be located in Singapore and be able to commit to a 6-month internship period.

As a Payments Intern, you will contribute to the growth of our fast-evolving payments product, supporting our efforts as we scale our operations, enhance features, and deliver exceptional service and value to our clients.

• Bachelor's Degree and above (final year or fresh graduates)
• You possess attention to detail and are highly attentive to small discrepancies in numbers or data — essential for reconciliation and reporting accuracy.
• Double-checks work to ensure quality and compliance.
• You are naturally inquisitive about why things happen in payment processes 
• You approach challenges with curiosity and critical thinking, finding practical solutions to real problems.
• A strong team player who works effectively with cross-functional teams.
• You are an effective communicator who conveys ideas clearly and professionally, both in writing and in verbal discussions.
• You are proactive and self-driven — taking the initiative, working independently, and constantly looking for ways to streamline processes and make an impact.

You will leverage your strong infrastructure and development skills in post-incident reviews to find the underlying cause of failures and prevent future incidents.

Attention to detail: You’ll be managing multiple, complex workstreams from numerous stakeholders.  It will be important for you to keep track of everything and notice when information is missing or inconsistent.

Excellent listener and clear communicator: We have a variety of nationalities and for many people, English isn’t their first language.  For you to excel, you’ll need to be present in your calls and make sure you properly receive and thoughtfully send messages to others in the business.

Our business relies on our platform availability and you need to be cognisant of your actions as it comes with great responsibility.

Compassionate: You will bring the empathy to understand which emotions our staff are experiencing, and the wisdom to know how best to act.

Analytical Mindset: You have a keen eye for detail and a methodical approach to dissecting problems. You excel at analysing complex systems and processes to identify weaknesses and inefficiencies, and your ability to evaluate multiple scenarios enables you to devise the best testing strategies. You apply data-driven decisions to enhance testing coverage and performance metrics, ensuring the highest standards of software quality.

Collaboration-Driven: You thrive in a cross-functional team environment, working closely with developers, product managers, and operations teams to ensure alignment on requirements and testing goals. You communicate effectively, advocate for quality throughout the development process, and proactively address potential issues before they arise, fostering a culture of shared responsibility for delivering exceptional software.

Autonomous/ Entrepreneurial: Things move fast at Sleek and we are not a hierarchical organisation.  We want the candidate to proactively seek out and own solutions without waiting for their manager to ask them.  We want the candidate to have the confidence to execute solutions on their own and the experience to know when to ask questions. 

Persuasive: A lot of teams at Sleek have a vested interest in Sleekbooks.  A lot of people have opinions about what needs to be done.  We want the candidate to be a great listener, making others feel heard, while artfully and thoughtfully moving others to action

The successful candidate will participate in the below interview stages. We anticipate the process to last no more than 3 weeks from start to finish.

Whether the interviews are held over video call or in person will depend on your location and the role.

A ~45 minute chat with the hiring manager, where they will dive into some of your recent work situations to understand how you think and work.

We’ll make a non-binding offer verbally or over email, followed by a couple of short phone or video calls with references that you provide to us.
