Performs and/or monitors market taxes related functions – withholding tax, capital gain tax, transaction tax:
Oversees the reclaim of withholding taxes under Double Tax Treaties performed by the custodian bank to ensure that the required documentation is in place and all opportunities for tax relief are seized in a timely manner.
Validates withholding tax and tax reclaim rates in the accounting system.
Assists internal teams in solving tax reconciliation items.
Establishes the annual production plan for periodic returns and coordinates the work of the custodian bank and the tax advisers.
Reviews tax filings for European Court of Justice tax claims, Capital Gain Tax returns, appeals, Financial Transaction Tax declaration and reconciles data to the accounting statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Researches and analyzes complex tax matters in collaboration with internal and external tax experts (e.g. understanding of the requirements to leverage from a DTT relief in complex markets like India, China, South Korea, impacts of fund merger, fund liquidation) and recommends solutions.
Monitors and reviews shareholder tax reporting compiled by external business partners:
Reviews and approves periodic shareholder tax figures and shareholder tax information reporting to the tax authorities as prepared by the custodian bank or the tax advisers to ensure that the methodology applied is in line with regulations and the data is accurate.
Establishes the annual production plan for periodic reporting and coordinates the work of the custodian bank and the tax advisers;
Reconciles source data to the accounting statements or the shareholder register and perform reasonability checks to ensure accuracy and completeness;
Researches and analyzes complex tax matters (e.g. bonds amortization, equalization figures, fund merger, fund liquidation, change in circumstances for a shareholder account), consults with internal and external tax experts and recommends solutions;
Prepares tax publications to the tax center on the Funds’ website.
Reviews dividend distribution and regulatory reporting calculations:
Compiles dividend calendars/planning and communicates to relevant internal and external parties.
Ensures accuracy, completeness and timeliness of distribution as prepared by the administrative agent.
Prepares and disseminates distribution information to internal and external parties (including regulator specific distribution reporting).
Participates in cross departmental projects and team initiatives:
Collaborates with management to establish project plan and processes based on defined business initiatives, set milestones and target dates.
Identifies and addresses tax and market impacts and communicates updates to managers and stakeholders.
Serves as subject matter expert in assigned areas:
Stays abreast of market developments via newsflashes, webinars, conferences and regular contacts with custodian bank and tax advisers and identifies and assesses related business risks and impacts.
Prepares recommendations and participates in implementation planning with the custodian bank and the tax advisers.
Communicates as appropriate (e.g. identifies and drafts items for reporting to the governance group, prepares memorandum to the Board of Directors of the Management Company, organizes calls with the custodian bank, delivers presentations to other departments and committees).
Serves as technical resource to the team to resolve issues, and model’s appropriate communication, decision-making and interaction skills.
Provides guidance on operational issues and technical questions to other departments.
Prepares ad’hoc analysis / simulations as per management or client requests to estimate impacts of regulation changes or product restructuring.
Monitors external service providers:
Assesses and tracks vendor performance to ensure adherence to accuracy and timeliness standards as set forth in the service level agreements; escalates issues.
Performs initial review of engagement letters with tax advisers and service level agreements with custodian banks and coordinates further review and sign-off by senior management.
Establishes annual tax budget for the IFA Oversight team and reviews and approves third party invoices based on agreed fee schedules and budgets.
Serves as a liaison between internal and external business partners and outsourcing providers to ensure that questions and issues are addressed using the appropriate level of expertise and confidentiality when necessary.
Documents procedures and identifies process improvements:
Updates internal monitoring tools and ensures thy remain accurate and relevant.
Identifies and escalates issues and proposes solutions. Discusses recommendations with management and implements improvements.
Participates in the training of other associates and reviews production work. Provides feedback to the management team regarding associate performance and development needs. Serves as a positive role model for other associates.
Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.

Professional tax or similar qualification (accounting, legal) (e.g. tax lawyer or qualified accountant having specialized in tax).
Working knowledge of the investment management industry (particularly in Europe and Australia) as it relates to tax regulations, investment mandates, investment vehicle structures, investment operations, third party providers, competitive landscape, reporting and regulatory environment and ability to apply it to work assignments.
Good accounting and numerical ability (know accounting principles, at ease with accounting reports, adjustments, accruals and budgeting).
In-depth knowledge of Excel, and ability to apply it to work assignments and department operations
analytical skills, problem solving ability, and a control mentality paired with meticulous attention to detail.
Can lead and/or participate in projects and team/department initiatives.
Enjoy consulting with other departments and provide guidance on operational issues and technical questions.
Self-motivated and a proactive team player who takes ownership and accountability of initiatives, has strong organizational skills as well as the ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
Demonstrates initiative by identifying issues for managers/others.
Demonstrates sound judgment in resolving routine matters.
Demonstrates the ability to identify, assess, respond to, and escalate risks or potential risks encountered through day-to-day activities.
Fluent written and spoken English.
In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital’s annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
