Job Description
The Cloud FinOps & Engineering Executive is responsible for driving effective cloud financial management, governance, and operational efficiency across the organization. This role primarily focuses on cloud cost optimization, contract management, and internal approval processes (70%), ensuring financial discipline, compliance, and value realization from cloud investments. In addition, the role provides hands-on cloud engineering support (30%), assisting with infrastructure, automation, and system performance. The ideal candidate combines strong financial acumen, attention to detail, and technical expertise to bridge business, finance, and engineering teams while enabling scalable and cost-efficient cloud operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cloud FinOps & Cost Optimization (Primary – ~70%)
- Monitor, analyze, and report on cloud spend across platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Identify cost optimization opportunities (rightsizing, reserved instances, savings plans, idle resources)
- Develop and maintain cloud cost dashboards, KPIs, and financial reports
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for cloud spend
- Partner with engineering teams to enforce cost-aware architecture and usage practices
- Implement and promote FinOps best practices and governance frameworks
- Cloud bill payment on-time to avoid charges
2. Contract Management & Vendor Governance
- Manage lifecycle of cloud-related contracts (negotiation support, renewals, compliance tracking)
- Liaise with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure contract alignment with business needs
- Monitor contract utilization, commitments, and financial obligations
- Maintain contract repository and documentation for audit readiness
- Support commercial negotiations with data-driven insights
3. Internal Approvals & Memo Preparation
- Prepare and submit internal MEMOs for cloud spend approvals, investments, and renewals
- Coordinate with finance, procurement, and leadership teams to secure approvals
- Ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance in all documentation
- Track approval workflows and follow-through on execution timelines
- Provide clear business justifications supported by financial and technical data
4. Cloud Engineering Support (Secondary – ~30%)
- Assist in cloud infrastructure setup, configuration, and maintenance
- Support deployment pipelines, automation, and monitoring tools
- Work with engineering teams on implementing tagging standards and cost allocation frameworks
- Troubleshoot basic cloud infrastructure and performance issues
- Contribute to system reliability, performance optimization, and security compliance
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, or related field
- 3–7 years of experience in Cloud FinOps, cloud operations, or cloud engineering
- Proven experience handling cloud cost management and financial governance
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Familiarity with FinOps tools (e.g., CloudHealth, Cloudability, Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer)
- Basic cloud engineering experience (IAM, compute, storage, networking)
- Experience with scripting or automation (Python, Bash, Terraform is a plus)
- Data analysis skills (Excel advanced)
Business & Functional Skills
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and forecasting
- Experience in contract/vendor management and procurement processes
- Proven ability to prepare executive-ready MEMOs and business cases
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
