Responsibilities
- Support and oversee legal commercial, regulatory, licensing and corporate matters for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region — where Coda’s stronghold markets are located — and manage a team of lawyers handling the sub-regions within.
- Help shape the direction of the business in APAC through clear, precise, and actionable legal recommendations.
- Advise cross-functional stakeholders and provide pragmatic solutions in support of regional business initiatives, including analysis and assessment of new products, features, or business lines, or legal, contractual, and regulatory requirements for existing business activities.
- Oversee cross-functional projects within the region, and coordinate with management and cross-functional stakeholders to drive projects to completion.
- Review, draft, and negotiate various commercial agreements, mainly SaaS (digital payments) agreements, as well as third-party vendor agreements, outsourcing or service agreements, and corporate group structuring agreements.
- Address inquiries from various functions, including management, Global Partnerships, Finance, Tax, Treasury, People Operations, Marketing, and Customer Support on keylegal, contractual, and regulatory requirements for APAC.
- Instruct, coordinate and manage Coda’s external counsel networks within the region.
- Work with a global team of lawyers who are agile, practical, solution-focused, and business-minded.
Requirements
- Qualified to practice law in any Southeast Asia jurisdiction.
- At least eight (8) years post-qualification experience (PQE), with experience at a reputable leading law firm.
- Experience in fintech, payments and payments licensing, gaming and/or e-commerce regulations in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region is preferred.
- Experience managing teams of lawyers is ideal.
- Experienced in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating corporate, and commercial transactions or agreements, including cross-border transactions.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and risk assessment capabilities, with good judgment and commitment to delivering results.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills; comfortable in coordinating and communicating with non-legal stakeholders.
- Highly organized and independent, with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle pressure and work to challenging deadlines.
