Role Overview

Based in Singapore, the Global Lead, Urban, Communications & Marketing, Buildings + Cities is responsible for developing and leading integrated communications and marketing strategies that support the global Urban sector’s business priorities, market positioning, leadership visibility and employee engagement. The Urban sector consists of Architecture + Design, Planning, Township and Project & Cost Management sub-sectors, with several business teams within each of them.

The role acts as a strategic communications and marketing partner to Urban senior leaders, helping translate sector priorities, expertise, project experience and market developments into clear, compelling narratives for internal and external audiences.

Working across a global matrix of Urban sub-sectors, regions, brand teams and Group communications, the role manages a small team of communications and marketing professionals, providing direction, prioritisation, coaching and oversight to ensure activity is delivered effectively and aligned with business needs.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead integrated communications and marketing strategies for the global Urban sector, aligned with Urban business priorities, Buildings + Cities objectives and SJ Group’s brand strategy.

  • Act as a strategic communications advisor to the Urban sector Senior Executive Director, sub-sector Executive Directors and other senior leaders, supporting leadership messaging, external positioning, town halls, presentations, conferences and thought leadership.

  • Lead communications and marketing for priority Urban sector initiatives, including leadership alignment, internal engagement, campaign planning and messaging, awards and project profiling across relevant sub-sectors and regions.

  • Support internal communications and engagement across the Urban sector, helping employees understand sector priorities, leadership messages, key initiatives and change-related updates.

  • Shape and maintain a clear Urban sector narrative that communicates the sector’s expertise, market relevance, client value and contribution to more sustainable, liveable and resilient cities.

  • Oversee external positioning and content activity, including thought leadership, media and PR opportunities, conference visibility, awards, social media, digital communications and project storytelling, translating complex Urban topics into clear, audience-relevant content.

  • Manage and guide a team of direct reports, setting priorities, managing workloads, reviewing work, coaching team members and ensuring high-quality delivery across campaigns, events, content, digital, awards, social media and other communications and marketing activity.

  • Work closely with Urban sub-sector teams and stakeholders, regional communications and marketing teams, creative teams, Group Brand & Communications and other internal brand teams to align priorities, coordinate delivery and avoid duplication.

  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and technical experts across a culturally diverse, multidisciplinary and global business, using strong interpersonal skills to influence, align and deliver through a matrix structure.

  • Measure, evaluate and report on communications and marketing activity, using data, feedback and stakeholder input to improve planning, prioritisation and impact.

Requirements

  • Tertiary degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Management or related discipline.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in communications, marketing, corporate affairs, public relations or a related discipline.

  • Experience within the architecture sector is required, with a strong understanding of how architectural practices position their expertise, projects, people and design value in market. Experience across broader built environment services would be advantageous

  • Demonstrated experience partnering with senior business leaders on communications strategy, leadership messaging, external positioning and internal engagement.

  • Experience developing and delivering integrated communications and marketing strategies across multiple channels, including internal communications, external communications, digital, social media, events, awards and thought leadership.

  • Experience managing a small team and overseeing delivery across tactical communications and marketing activity.

  • Experience working across multiple stakeholders, markets, functions or business units in a matrixed environment.

  • Experience supporting a branded business, member company, sub-brand or specialist practice within a broader corporate brand architecture would be advantageous.
