Job Description Summary
The successful candidate for this position will be part of a dynamic and diverse legal team with responsibility for providing legal support to Cushman & Wakefield's (“C&W”) skill lines, corporate functions and senior leadership with a primary focus on the Singapore & South-East Asia business. Leveraging an ability and willingness to work under time-sensitive deadlines and be productive in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities, the Corporate Counsel will pro-actively support C&W's varied client base and foster C&W’s collaborative culture.
This position reports to the Head of Legal, Singapore and South-East Asia. With proven legal experience from relevant private practice and/or in-house environments, the successful candidate will be a strategic thinker who can provide technical legal advice to efficiently and effectively support the business and serve as a counselor and partner to key business stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to manage third party advisers and work collaboratively in teams acting across geographies and skill lines is critical.
Job Description
- Undertake and/or procure the analysis, drafting, negotiation, finalization and approval process for all C&W commercial contracts involving the Singapore and South-East Asia business, including supporting C&W’s global occupier services business.
- Collaborate with all areas of the Legal Risk and Compliance function to facilitate and support with the implementation of firm policies and processes in-country and develop and enhance awareness within the business of those policies and processes.
- Advise and counsel internal clients with respect to the legal policies and the legal implications of proposed transactions; maintain open communication and good working relationships with both internal clients and C&W’s clients.
- Advise and counsel C&W service line, functional and local country leadership.
- Implement and maintain processes and procedures, leveraging technology, to consistently analyze and mitigate complex contractual risk while increasing efficiency and consistency in contracting, while advising on localization of such agreements.
- Support with the effective management and coordination of disputes and litigation matters in Singapore and South-East Asia and advise on corporate and other matters, in coordination with the Head of Legal, Singapore and South-East Asia.
- Research, analyze and keep current on legal issues and laws, legislation, regulations and court decisions affecting the real estate industry and real estate service providers.
- Create and deliver targeted and relevant training and development opportunities for internal clients and colleagues.
- Perform other related duties as required or requested.
Qualifications & Experience
- 4+ years of relevant post-qualification professional legal experience
- private practice training from a reputable firm
- Some in-house experience is desirable
- Broad range of experience across general contract matters – candidates with experience in government tenders/PPP or facilities management contracts preferred
- Experience advising in Singapore and South-East Asia desirable
- Experience in the real estate/services industry desirable
- Demonstrated client focus
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal. Other language skills would be beneficial
- Experience managing diverse legal work across multiple locations and jurisdictions
- Ability to be productive in time-sensitive situations and fast-paced environments
