Join our global team for a career filled with opportunities to solve challenges both small and large, local and global, simple and complex.

We are looking for a Business Development Manager – Traders & Charterers to join our company.

We are looking for a highly motivated and commercially astute Business Development Manager – Traders & Charterers to drive regional growth with traders, charterers, and commodity players across Asia Pacific. This is a strategic role aimed at bridging the gap between port operations and commercial teams, identifying revenue opportunities, and deepening relationships with key industry stakeholders. The ideal candidate is well-versed in the commodity and shipping landscape, with an existing customer network and a strong grasp of port agency services.

In Wilhelmsen Port Services, we provide our customers with piece of mind while we handle their cargo, their vessels and their crew. We handle 75,000 port calls per year, which means that every 7 minutes, anywhere around the world, we send a ship safely out to sea again to fulfil its purpose. We match local expertise with strict global standards, making sure we consistently make our customers’ port calls as efficient and safe as possible.

This position reports to the Global Sales Director.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead regional business development activities for the Traders & Charterers segment in Asia Pacific.

  • Identify, develop, and close new commercial opportunities with traders, charterers, brokers, and commodity houses.

  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing clients across major trading hubs including Singapore, China, Japan, South Korea, and Australia.

  • Serve as the segment expert, delivering insights into market trends, customer behavior, and competitive positioning.

  • Collaborate closely with port operations and global commercial teams to ensure seamless service delivery and opportunity conversion.

  • Contribute to strategic planning, pricing models, and service innovations tailored to segment needs.

  • Represent the company at industry events and customer engagements, acting as a senior point of contact.

Who you are:

  • In-depth understanding of commodity flows (e.g., oil, gas, chemicals, grains, minerals) and their impact on port activities.

  • Familiarity with chartering cycles, vessel operations, and port agency value propositions.

  • Strong awareness of the competitive landscape and customer decision-making processes.

  • Established network with key decision-makers in the shipping and trading ecosystem.

  • Ability to engage effectively at both operational and senior levels within customer organizations.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in shipping, port agency, commodity trading, marine inspection, or shipbroking.

  • Proven success in business development, key account management, or commercial roles with strong exposure to traders, charterers, and commodity desks.

  • Direct experience in port and vessel operations preferred; candidates from competitors, brokers, customers, or inspection firms are highly valued.

  • Entrepreneurial, with a strong “hunter” mindset and proactive business approach.

  • Commercially sharp, with solid negotiation and influencing skills.

  • Self-driven and accountable, yet collaborative across functional teams.

  • Excellent communication skills in English; other Asian languages a plus.
