How you succeed 

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a strategic thinker and an understanding and knowledge of the securities industry and its regulatory framework would be an added advantage. You will need to be able to provide practical and effective legal advice to the business, while also managing risks and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Your ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and communicate complex legal issues in a clear and concise manner will be essential. 

What you do

Have good exposure and direct access to key stakeholders in the assigned business and support units.

Provide commercially practical legal advice to our securities trading business arm, and other assigned business and support units of OCBC Bank. This includes:

  • responding to queries, identifying potential legal issues and risks and providing solutions (as appropriate);

  • drafting, reviewing and negotiating documents (including brokerage agreements, participation agreements, sub-placement agreements, outsourcing / service agreements, etc.);

  • ensuring legal policies, procedures and applicable laws are complied with; conducting trainings on legal issues (where relevant) to assigned business/support units;

  • collaborating with business units and other functional specialists and providing effective legal support when reviewing new or revised products and services; and

  • liaising and coordinating with external counsel(s) where appropriate.

Group Legal & Compliance takes care of integrity and ensures compliance with all rules and regulations, developing the policies and procedures that manage and mitigate risk. Who you are

  • Qualified lawyer with 4 to 6 PQE

  • Good experience in contract/corporate/commercial law

  • Confident in dealing with and managing multiple stakeholders, negotiating with external parties, and instructing external counsel where appropriate

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision. Candidate must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and must be able to collaborate with other functional specialists

  • Experience in litigation and securities/trading business would be helpful although not a prerequisite

  • Experience or interest in learning about securities and trading business

  • Agile and adaptable mindset
