Assistant Professor up to Full Professor in Discourse Analysis (ELL) [NIE]

The English Language and Literature Department (ELL) at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, invites applications for one tenure track and/or tenured appointment at any level: Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor position in Discourse Analysis. As one of the most highly ranked education institutions in the world, NIE is at the forefront of education research. As an academic department within an institution devoted to teacher education, ELL is dedicated to innovative teaching and high-quality research in the areas of English language and linguistics, literature, and English teacher education. Requirements
Applicants should minimally satisfy the following criteria:
a PhD qualification in English Language/(Applied) Linguistics with a specialisation in Discourse Analysis from a university of good international standing (applicants who are nearing completion of their doctoral studies will be considered but PhD must be in hand at the time of appointment);
an established track record of academic research, presentations, and relevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed international journals, commensurate with the rank applied for;
an established record of excellent teaching in relevant areas at undergraduate or graduate levels (preferably both);
A research agenda with relevance to education will be an advantage.
Additional requirements for Associate/Full Professor:
an excellent track record as an Associate/Full Professor at reputable universities;
an excellent record in securing and managing competitive grants, producing impactful research results, and engaging in innovative, collaborative research;
an established record of supervision in relevant areas at undergraduate and graduate levels;
a strong record of teaching leadership;
sustained academic leadership and service at the departmental/university level or within professional organizations; and
a good international network of scholarly collaborators.
Additional requirement for Full Professor:
Candidates for the Full Professor position must demonstrate significant achievements in research and teaching and, in particular, the leadership impact of these scholastic achievements. They must have made substantial contributions to their profession and have international visibility.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
contribute to teaching and course development in Discourse Analysis at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as related activities such as thesis supervision and examination; and supervision of teaching practice;
obtain competitive research funding, develop a robust research agenda and maintain a strong publication record;
undertake administrative and/or leadership roles and contribute to other service-related activities at the department or institution level;
establish partnerships with local and international researchers and practitioners to explore avenues for research and teaching that will create an impact in the discipline and/or educational practice; and
(For Associate and Full Professor level) mentor junior faculty members and serve on NIE / NTU committees, and offer professional services to schools, to the Singapore Ministry of Education, and to other public education-related organizations if requested.

Applicants should demonstrate the significance and impact of their research by addressing the following:
- Key Contributions: What are your most important research impacts to date?
- Evidence of Impact: How has your work influenced your field, policy, or practice? Provide evidence (e.g., publications, citations, policy uptake, industry adoption).
- Academic Impact: How has your work advanced theory, methods, or knowledge?
- Societal/Policy/Industry Impact (if applicable): Describe influence on policy, regulation, industry standards, or broader society.
- Research Identity: What distinguishes your work? Articulate a clear and coherent research trajectory.
- Contribution and Leadership: Clarify your role in collaborative projects.
- Future Impact: Outline how your research will shape the field over the next 5–10 years
Statement on Service Contributions and Academic Leadership (if any);
Three sample publications; and
names, addresses, and email addresses of three academic referees.
Please note that shortlisted applicants will be first invited for an online interview. If selected to proceed to the next round, they will be invited for a second interview and for a campus visit where they will be expected to present a job talk and to conduct a lesson in their area of expertise for our students at NIE.
