Visiting Associate Professor Position in Visual Communication

The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU) invites applications for a one-year Visiting Associate Professor position in Visual Communication. ADM is part of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (COHASS). This position is intended for eminent overseas academics such as international prize recipients or distinguished scholars whose presence will enhance the academic standing of the faculty. The primary responsibility of this role is teaching. However, there are opportunities for candidates to incorporate their research interest(s) in the course syllabi as well as collaborations with other faculty within ADM.

Therefore, candidates should be able to demonstrate a strong teaching track record in a current or previous Associate Professor academic level position. We seek candidates with expertise in one or more areas of Visual Communication, including fields such as, but not limited to, graphic design, editorial design, typography and typeface design, illustration, visual identity, production, concept development, design criticism, motion graphic, curatorial design, and exhibition design.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of undergraduate courses in Visual Communication. There are opportunities to advise on curricular direction and to develop courses, and to provide technical review and feedback on facilities and equipment for pedagogical needs.

The candidate is expected to bring international visibility to the school through continued high quality academic scholarship and/or impactful creative activity. The school expects a variety of service duties, including school and university committee service, and coordination of courses.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

1. Deliver 2 courses a semester in Visual Communication

2. Provide advice and expertise to identify and expand areas of curricular development

3. Provide up-to-date technical expertise to review and advise on technologies for teaching needs

4. Take on pathway coordination role and attending academic meetings

Successful candidates should have a terminal degree (MFA, PhD or Practice PhD) in Visual Communication/Graphic Design, or equivalent area of expertise. In exceptional cases, an MA supported by significant professional experience can also be considered.

The candidate should have a strong track record of teaching experience at the university level. Preference will be given to the candidate with substantial industry experience and good collaborations at the international level.
