JOB SPECIFICATION
To support the positioning of MUFG as a lead bank in providing and anticipating key sector themes, insights on opportunities and solving strategic and financing challenges for our clients across corporate and investment banking, with a focus on client engagement, opportunity identification and holistic banking solutions.
Fintech team is part of our Technology, Media and Telecom (“TMT”) sector vertical within Sector Coverage APAC. Fintech team members are expected to play a key role demonstrating expertise across the dynamics / trends of digital banking, digitization and payments ecosystem, proactively engaging / supporting MUFG’s APAC portfolio of Fintech investee companies with provision of suitable banking solutions, and providing effective coordination of key stakeholders and MUFG’s Partner Banks for opportunity monetisation. Fintech team has a regional mandate across APAC.
The successful candidate will play a key role to develop, coordinate and drive the execution of opportunities with our partner banks, key product and compliance teams and regional client engagement including with Financial Institutions coverage bankers. The role will also actively support strategic senior level client engagement, opportunity initiation and analysis as well as showcasing our sector expertise to GCIB clients. Supporting management and risk decision making through enabling better understanding and monitoring of sector dynamics will also be an important element of the role. Working with Fintech and TMT colleagues, the successful candidate will proactively engage senior client executives in conjunction with Sector Coverage team members, coverage bankers and Product Office (PO) and key stakeholders. Demonstrate sector expertise particularly in digital banking and payments ecosystem, insightful perspectives of successful or commercially viable business models, expected winners, trends, and potential deals/transaction opportunities.
Demonstrate strong stakeholder coordination to drive outcomes including client on-boarding and implementation of banking solutions. Take ownership of Fintech insights dashboard to ensure it is up to date and accurately captures team perspectives on sector transactions/investments and helps MUFG as a group proactively position for key upcoming opportunities.
Contribute to sector and PO budgets and drive revenue, returns and portfolio allocation.
Link with MUFG stakeholders globally to facilitate information exchange, idea generation, contribute to strategy development and solution delivery.
Contribute to establishment of the MUFG profile as lead bank for Fintech ecosystem (conference, branding etc.).
Contribute to development of the MUFG knowledge hub including credentials and proposal materials, technical understanding and marketing.
Develop and support growth of team members.
Fintech will reside within Technology, Media and Telecom (“TMT”) as part of Sector Coverage APAC. The Sector Coverage team covers multiple industry verticals and undertakes key roles within Global Corporate and Investment Banking APAC, including (1) engaging senior client executives with thematic and scalable cross-sector insights; (2) originating event driven opportunities with local coverage, product and distribution partners as well as for leading execution of corporate M&A debt financings; and (3) engaging with internal stakeholders to promote optimal risk-return outcomes across the portfolio.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Educational qualification
Minimum Bachelor’s degree from a university
Work Experience
Demonstrated high performance from top tier institutional or investment banking roles with a focus on Fintech and sector coverage/relationship management. High performing candidates within Strategy, M&A and Business Development teams of leading regional Fintech players also considered.
For Vice President: Minimum 8 years’ experience as a key member of marketing/relationship management and deal execution teams at a leading bank or leading Fintech player.
For Director: Minimum 16 years' experience as a key member of marketing/relationship management and deal execution teams at a leading bank or leading Fintech player.
Experience delivering strategic Fintech sector knowledge and cross-products solutions including with Transaction Banking and Global Markets.
Track record of successfully driving the identification, coordination, structuring and execution of strategic transactions, and has developed a network of relationships in their sector.
Practical knowledge of corporate financing and sector-based insights leading through to cross-product solutions.
Functional/Technical Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours:
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and deliver results in cross-functional projects.
Ability to clearly articulate financial concepts and risk-return considerations in written and verbal formats to internal and external stakeholders
Experience working on evolving sector dynamics, trends, business models and payments ecosystem relating to Fintech.
Proficiency in banking solutions, credit understanding and advanced financial analysis/modelling technical capabilities/valuation and due diligence analysis skills.
Demonstrated coordination and execution excellence including delivering positive client outcomes in prior corporate transactions / deal environments.
Demonstrated ability to quickly understand and articulate what is required and to deliver on time critical deal situations, with a strong attention to detail.
Experience working in cross-functional, multi-country teams
Ability to develop and implement strategic business initiatives; demonstrated experience in originating new business opportunities and execution.
