Who we are:

Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, helps customers use energy more productively, reduce carbon emissions, and operate with the precision and resilience required in rapidly expanding industries such as data centers, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, and higher education.

For more than 140 years, Johnson Controls has delivered performance where it really matters. Backed by advanced technology, lifecycle services and an industry-leading field organization, we elevate customer performance, turn goals into real-world results and help move society forward.

What you will do:

As a Technology Strategy Applications Engineer, you will be identifying challenges, constraints, and goals of data center designers, and developing tailored solutions for customers. Defining innovative, scalable, and repeatable thermal management solutions which can be applied to numerous phases, sites, or geographies where data centers may be constructed.

How you will do it:

In this role, you will leverage your expertise to:

  • Developing globally applicable reference designs to produce facility water for use in air-cooled, liquid-cooled, hybrid-cooled or methods of cooling in data center facilities.

  • Industry engagement with complimentary thermal system partners and stakeholders to author white papers, case studies, or application guides of the equipment and/or systems needed for facility water production.

  • Engage with the infrastructure design community, such as consulting engineers and in-house mission critical mechanical teams, through industry conferences, expositions and other engagements to design the next generation of cooling architecture for data centers.

  • Provide in-depth technical support and guidance on thermal management (facility water) products internally and externally to the organization.

  • Collaborate internally with R&D, Training, Product Management, and Technical Support teams to ensure market needs are met in alignment with company product strategies. Ensure the necessary design, technical, and marketing tools to support clients with both existing new, and upcoming products.

You thrive on building relationships and driving business growth. A natural problem solver, you work independently, manage multiple priorities with precision, and remain proactive in engaging customers and stakeholders.

What we look for:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in designing mechanical cooling systems, such as chillers, chilled water pumping and storage systems, or similar industry.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience within data center industry, directly responsible for the design of cooling systems of advanced IT equipment

  • Strong technical knowledge of mission critical cooling systems, their applications and market trends.

  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills, with the ability to influence decision-makers at all levels.

  • Proven track record of understanding and writing product specifications from, or for, end users, consultants, and installers.

  • Experience in strategic planning, marketing, and market research.

  • Highly developed prospecting skills—ability to identify key decision-makers and stakeholders.

  • Proactive, self-motivated approach—able to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.

  • Strong team-player mindset—cross-functional collaboration is essential for success.
