Engineers Gate (EG) is a leading quantitative investment company focused on computer-driven trading in global financial markets.  We are a team of researchers, engineers, and financial industry professionals using sophisticated statistical models to analyze data and identify predictive signals to generate superior investment returns. EG’s investment teams each focus on their independent strategies while utilizing the firm’s proprietary, state-of-the-art technology and data platform to optimize their alpha research.

The Systems Engineer will join EG’s Systems Infrastructure Team, which is responsible for all layers of technology in our environment, from networking, to servers, and application services. The firm’s infrastructure is built using modern technologies, with a focus on creating robust, reusable components and strategic use of automation. Our infrastructure team is “flat” – it does not have dedicated support, engineering-only or project manager roles; team members are responsible for design, implementation, operation and support for our environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join the company as the first member of the EG IT team in the Asia-Pacific region. As the Systems Engineer will report to the New York-based Head of Infrastructure, the person in this position must be able to work independently and exercise good judgement to ensure solutions align with company and team precedent and culture. The ideal candidate will demonstrate both technical aptitude in areas they have worked on previously and the ability to think systematically and reason about problems they have not yet seen. While new team members will receive support and mentorship from other members of the team, they are also expected to be able to perform research independently and propose solutions to problems that arise.

The position will start as remote and transition to an in-office role during the build-out of the new office and beyond. This role includes physical work to support the Singapore office, including overseeing and assisting initial setup for the new office as well as day-to-day in-person support and workstation adds/changes.

The job provides exposure to:

  • A large, Linux-centric, multi-tenant public cloud environment
  • Configuration management tools such as Ansible, and infrastructure management tools such as Terraform
  • Heavy use of cloud-managed services (DBaaS, IaaS, etc.) to offload undifferentiated maintenance work from the team
  • Databases of various shapes and sizes, including relational databases, columnar databases, NoSQL, etc.
  • A SaaS-heavy corporate environment that favors flexibility and agility over legacy on-premise technologies
  • Cloud-native video-conferencing and phone systems
  • Various storage technologies including object storage, file share systems, and cloud-based platforms such as Sharepoint

Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in CS, EE, or related field.
  • 5-10 years professional experience in technology related field
  • Superb communication skills
  • Able to manage projects independently
  • Able to learn new platforms and technologies quickly
  • Server administration – Windows and/or Linux
  • Public cloud (particularly AWS)
  • Scripting/programming (Powershell, Python, Bash, etc.)
  • Mobile device management controls (MDM/MAM)
  • Videoconference and phone systems
  • Desktop support across multiple operating systems – Windows, Mac and Linux
  • White glove, high-touch user support
  • Windows and Active Directory administration
  • Email system administration and support
  • Security and compliance controls (endpoint security, firewalls, etc.)
  • Networking (routing and switching)
  • Database administration
  • Financial industry experience
