Job Description

As part of our development engineering expansion footprint, we are hiring for a Staff/Senior Firmware Test Engineers to be part of our global Power Motion Business (PMB) development organization in the Singapore Campus.

This role will be embedded within the firmware development team and will work closely with firmware architects, developers, product owners, and system engineers throughout the product development lifecycle. The engineer will be responsible for planning, designing, automating, and executing firmware verification activities to ensure product quality, reliability, and compliance with requirements.

The ideal candidate possesses strong knowledge of embedded systems, real-time software, test automation, and firmware development processes. This role will drive quality from the early design stages through product release by establishing robust test strategies, developing automated test frameworks, identifying defects early, and partnering with firmware developers to resolve issues efficiently. This position collaborates with both regional and global engineering teams and reports to the Firmware Engineering Manager.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Participate as an embedded member of the firmware development team throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Develop comprehensive firmware test strategies, test plans, and test cases based on product requirements and software architecture.
  • Execute functional, integration, system, regression, and performance testing for embedded firmware products.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test tools to improve test efficiency and coverage.
  • Develop and maintain Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), and simulation-based test environments where applicable.
  • Collaborate with firmware developers during requirements reviews, architecture reviews, design reviews, and code reviews to improve product quality.
  • Identify, analyze, reproduce, and document software defects and work closely with developers to drive root-cause investigation and resolution.
  • Verify implementation against requirements and ensure bidirectional traceability between requirements, test cases, and validation results.
  • Support Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) initiatives by integrating automated testing into development pipelines.
  • Develop test metrics, coverage reports, and quality dashboards to provide visibility into product quality and release readiness.
  • Investigate firmware anomalies and field issues reported by customers, technical support teams, or test teams.
  • Participate in risk assessments and ensure appropriate testing is performed for critical product functionality.
  • Continuously improve test processes, automation capabilities, and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on firmware test methodologies and automation solutions.
  • Work effectively within Agile, Scrum, or SAFe development environments.
  • Collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams across multiple locations and time zones.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, development processes, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

The Essentials - You Will Have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering with concentration in software; or equivalent
  • Typically 5+ years of experience in embedded software testing, firmware validation, test automation, or firmware development.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
  • Strong understanding of embedded systems, microcontrollers, RTOS, communication protocols, and hardware/software interactions.
  • Experience with firmware debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and similar tools.
  • Experience developing automated test solutions using Python, C/C++, or similar programming languages.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
  • Experience with defect tracking and requirements management tools such as Jira, Jama, Q Test, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or SAFe development methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
