Job Description

The ALAM Venture Manager is accountable for the overall coordination and implementation of major investment opportunities for ALAM particularly as it enters a new country, builds and operates manufacturing assets and ramps to delight the customer. The role is the primary interface between ALAM and the customer, local community, government and stakeholders, AL affiliates, and coordinates between ALAM functions. The Venture Manager will be the focal point as business lead for the overall project execution and will be engaged with global as well as regional personnel. Due to the complexities of understanding and working on the local level, preference will be given to individuals who are natives of the country or have extensive experience and time spent in the country. In the case of an expat, extensive evaluation will be required to ensure proper fit for the role culturally. Cross functional and cross regional leadership are required for success. There is high visibility in this role to senior leaders in Air Liquide and ALAM. This successful candidate will report to the Head of Technical Marketing and will have accountability to the ALAM VP of Marketing & Products.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Customer communication: Sales/PM: Accountable for ensuring customer requirements are properly communicated to all functions and manage changes and inquiries in a timely fashion. Champions daily (if necessary) customer communications to provide clarity and control.

  • Local government coordination: Apply for economic incentives and ensure the legal entity is set up appropriately to meet the ALAM business needs.  Manage local governmental and regulatory relationships with the wider cross functional team.

  • HSES: In partnership with local HSES expertise, ensure local regulations are well understood and drive permitting particularly in those instances where local customers can be of assistance.  

  • Legal: Ensure representation is available to manage various multiple procurement contracts, local utilities, employment requirements, applicable industrial park authorities and also local laws.

  • HR: In partnership with HR professionals in ALAM and the greater AL, ensure infrastructure is in place at the right time for hiring, onboarding, payroll, vacation management, start up bonuses if applicable, support from expats or short term assignments for resources from outside the country

  • Finance: Ensure all finance related requirements are managed and in place, including but not limited to: entity creation, governance, capital funding, internal control framework, and financial reporting.Manage the interplay between capital costs, operating costs, revenues and operating income to ensure the range of investment returns are accurately calculated, communicated and adhere with ALAM and Air Liquide requirements.  Operations: Coordinate with Operations for overall project schedule and details.  Ensure that Operations planning is conducted through all phases of the project development.  Ensure that unknowns are appropriately addressed during the development phase when the lack of project definition makes operating cost estimates a particular challenge. Attend daily morning meetings to gather information for daily customer update(s) and to explain conflicts to customers for prioritization.

  • Quality: Ensure alignment between Prod Mgmt, Quality, Operations and Engineering on SPO deliverables to be very specific and detailed on what is required to delight the customer. 

  • Engineering Project Manager: Coordinate with the Engineering Project Manager on project scope changes and approval, schedule changes and approval and budget impact including approval to distribute reserves.  

  • Supply Chain: Coordinate with SC and Procurement to ensure all raw material, product container (e.g. canister) specifications and contracts are in place and properly approved. Coordinate with Procurement and Engineering Project Mgmt on EPC contracts and other support labor contracts as well as purchasing of long lead items and equipment for the project.

  • IT: Coordinate with ALAM IT (and local AL IT) to ensure all application (e.g. ERP, AssetTrak, LIMS) and infrastructure (e.g hardware)  needs are known and there is an implementation plan in place to support the Engineering project and the plant ramp schedule. 

  • Evaluate team analyses for business cases, identifying key concepts and/or red flags to progress of the project

  • Deliver time-sensitive recommendations to upper management via white papers, presentations, or other appropriate communication methods

Qualifications

  • BA in Business or BS in an Engineering or Science discipline

  • Extensive project management experience

  • 10 years of experience in semiconductor, speciality chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing 

  • Proven ability to generate consensus between different functional groups with competing priorities by using data

  • Self-starter with the ability to perform well under pressure and changing priorities with limited supervision.

  • Ability to communicate concisely and effectively in written and verbal formats with stakeholders at multiple levels in the business.

  • Ability to react to ambiguous, unclear or unknown requirements with speed and accuracy while simultaneously ensuring alignment across stakeholders.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and high Emotional Intelligence quota

Additional Information

  • Master in Business Administration

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification, equivalent knowledge or willingness to obtain at least Green Belt certification

  • Potential to be a future business leader in ALAM or other AL organizations.

  • Experience with contract manufacturing, acquisitions and joint ventures a plus for future work.
