Overview:
A recognised leader and experienced landscape designer who is responsible for envisioning, designing and delivering exceptional projects for clients. An all-round ability to be able to work from concept to detailed design on large-scale masterplans. Possesses strong communication skills, a flexible attitude, ability to solve problems creatively and ability to foster and manage effective client and team relationships. Responsible for high-impact decisions. Provides design & technical leadership and acts as an advisor on projects. Endorses the firm’s values by personally influencing client service, innovation and communication. Acts as subject matter expert for technical solutions.
Responsibilities :
- Acts as lead master planner on multiple projects developing urban planning solutions at a variety of scales, preparing site and context analysis, presentations, and final client deliverables
- Guides and directs multiple project teams to manage the development of design and planning from master planning concept design to final plan documents
- Establishes the vision and sets project goals in conjunction with the client and project team
- Leads planning efforts and client presentations to develop and support client relationships
- Exercises skills of persuasion and negotiation on critical issues
- Develops creative planning concepts for projects and expands on concepts of others
- Manages design solutions based on principles of urban planning and design including building massing, scale, public space design, building typologies and site circulation
- Utilizes data analytics to understand and uncover the unique characteristics of sites, neighborhoods, or districts to inform a project approach; experience giving instruction to staff regarding data collection, organization, cleaning, and analysis
- Ability to lead public input processes, community engagement and develop stakeholder outreach strategies
- Oversees schematic land and site planning drawings with graphic content to convey ideas, methodologies and approaches for marketing and proposal requests
- Leads the preparation of proposals, presentations, schedules, maps, planning reports and processing of implementation documentation while collaborating and giving instruction to staff
- Oversees delivery of complete project presentations to client user group or public forum
- Coordinates with consultants, community stakeholders and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives; manages project details with consulting firms
- Resolves complex planning and development issues with innovative and practical solutions to maintain goals and objectives of projects
- Works with respective teams to manage client expectations, team communication and consultant coordination
- Leads and collaborates in team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplines
- Assists in landscape projects as required
- Travel will be required
Qualifications:
- Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture or related field; postgraduate degree preferred
- Architectural, Urban Design, Planning registration, or associated licensure strongly preferred
- Urban design/planning related accreditation preferred such as AICP, LEED ND and/or Ecodistricts AP, or within one year of hire
- Typically, 5+ years of experience in landscape architecture / urban design, including prior experience in international master planning projects
- Sustainable design accreditation preferred
- Knowledge with software such as AutoCAD, Revit and 3D modeling (including Rhino and Grasshopper, 3D Studio MAX, etc.)
- Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp and InDesign graphic software preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred
- Proficiency in geographic information systems (GIS) software such as ArcGIS or QGIS highly preferred
- Advanced knowledge of urban design theories and placemaking principles
- Advanced knowledge of the principles, methodology and practices of research and mapping data
- Advanced knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines
- Advanced knowledge of QA/QC process
- Advanced knowledge of codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into implementation documents
- Advanced knowledge of basic zoning regulations, land use and mobility planning standards
- Strong knowledge of the principles, methodology and practices of research and mapping data
- Knowledge of written and graphic AI tools preferred
- Strong presentation skills and graphic and visualization skills to communicate design ideas at a variety of scales
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
- Ability to be able to work from concept to detailed design on large scale master plans
- Ability to manage team with diplomatic leadership style which puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external
- Ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
- Ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions
- Ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment
- Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality
