Job Description

The Head of Data Discovery is responsible for ensuring data in the Enterprise Data and Architecture Governance platform (EDAG) is accessible and discoverable to the bank’s users whilst ensuring the appropriate controls and monitoring are in place. This role is responsible for building and operating the bank’s data discovery platform within EDAG, ensuring that data can be easily located, understood and consumed by the various Business Units. At the same time, this role will support data monetization initiatives in the bank through delivery of insights, streamlining of processes and providing data discovery and consultation activities.

This role is critical to enabling the bank’s ability to unlock new value from data and analytics and enabling innovation. The role combines platform ownership, governance leadership and business enablement, ensuring that data discovery becomes a strategic capability for the entire bank.

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Discovery Strategy & Platform Ownership

  • Own and drive the enterprise strategy for data discovery, cataloguing, and data access enablement across the bank.
  • Lead the development and continuous evolution of the enterprise data discovery platform and services.
  • Establish scalable capabilities that allow users to easily discover, understand, and access trusted data assets.
  • Drive innovation and modernization of the data discovery ecosystem to support evolving analytics, AI, and digital initiatives.
  • Champion the adoption of self-service data discovery while maintaining strong governance and oversight.

2. Data provisioning and data discovery store ownership

  • Oversee and manage the data discovery store
  • Provide data discovery and data provisioning services
  • Define processes that facilitate and improve data provisioning & data discovery
  • Drive changes and improvements to the data discovery store
  • Enable safe self‑service access to data while maintaining strong oversight.

 3. Controls and monitoring

  • Establish and strengthen data governance and control frameworks on the data discovery store
  • Establish monitoring capabilities around usage, users of data discovery and detect and highlight any potential risks and act as a point of escalation.
  • Ensure compliance and minimize operational risks through conducting regular reviews of users and usage
  • Define Operating model and drive continuous improvements in the data discovery platform

4. Analytics & Business Enablement

  • Enable business units, analytics teams, and data scientists to rapidly identify and leverage data assets.
  • Ensure the data discovery platform supports advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI use cases.
  • Partner with analytics and product teams to accelerate experimentation, innovation, and proof-of-value initiatives.
  • Drive the adoption of data discovery capabilities to unlock new insights and business opportunities.

5. Stakeholder & Executive Engagement

  • Act as the single accountable leader for enterprise data discovery outcomes.
  • Partner with senior, leaders across business units across the bank
  • Communicate complex data and technology topics clearly to executive and non‑technical audiences.

6. Team management and development

  • Define and evolve the operating model for enterprise data discovery services.
  • Build and lead a high-performing multidisciplinary team across data engineering, data governance, and analytics enablement.
  • Drive continuous improvement in processes, tools, and practices supporting data discovery and access.
  • Foster a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.

Key Skills & Experience

Mandatory

  • Senior leadership experience in enterprise data management, data platforms, or analytics enablement.
  • 12+ years of experience in data management, data platforms, analytics, or related technology leadership roles.
  • Proven experience leading enterprise‑scale data platforms in a regulated environment (e.g. banking, financial services).
  • Ability to operate effectively across business, technology, and risk domains in complex organizations.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Data architecture and integration patterns
    • Data governance, quality, lineage, and controls
    • Analytics and data science enablement
  • Experience engaging senior stakeholders and executives.
  • Influential communicator with strong stakeholder management skills
  • Pragmatic, outcome‑driven, and risk‑aware

Desirable

  • Strong strategic thinking combined with hands-on delivery experience in large-scale data environments.
  • Experience with modern data platforms (data lakes, warehouses, analytics tooling).
  • Exposure to regulatory and risk data requirements in financial services.
  • Demonstrated capability influencing senior stakeholders and driving enterprise-wide data initiatives.
  • Experience working with distributed or cross‑functional teams.
