Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a senior video journalist to join our Asia-Pacific video team in Singapore. In this role, you will produce distinctive, visually compelling stories that explain the forces shaping business, markets, politics, and technology — with a particular focus on China and the broader region.

We’re looking for a journalist with sharp editorial instincts, proven reporting experience, and advanced visual storytelling skills. You will originate, report, and produce ambitious features, explainers, and news coverage that deepen our audience’s understanding of the region and its global impact.

This is a hands-on role for a journalist who thrives on breaking down complex topics, works confidently under deadline pressure, and is comfortable collaborating across a global newsroom to deliver high-impact video journalism.

Responsibilities
  • Pitch, report, script, and produce original video stories — from timely news coverage to in-depth features and explainers — that reflect WSJ’s editorial priorities.
  • Manage the full production process, including field reporting, filming, editing, and post-production, delivering work that is both journalistically rigorous and visually engaging.

  • Develop creative approaches to telling complex stories, using visuals, motion graphics, and data to bring clarity and depth.

  • Closely track developments across the Asia-Pacific region — particularly in China’s economy, markets, politics, and technology — and frame stories with global relevance.

  • Work with editors, reporters, graphics, and social teams to ensure video stories are well integrated across platforms.

  • Adapt quickly to breaking news and shifting priorities, managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Uphold the highest journalistic and legal standards throughout the reporting and production process.

  • Participate in an editorial rotation that may include occasional evening or weekend work as news demands.

Requirements
  • At least five years of experience producing video journalism in a global fast-paced newsroom with an international audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to originate and deliver impactful stories that make complex issues accessible and engaging.

  • Deep understanding of China and the broader Asia-Pacific region, along with strong editorial judgment and news sense.

  • Exceptional storytelling skills and experience producing features, explainers, and news videos under tight deadlines.

  • Proficiency with professional production tools, including Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator).

  • Experience with both field and studio production, including camera operation, lighting, and audio.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively across editorial teams.
