Position Summary:

As a Sr Systems Integration Engineer/Scientist at Illumina you will work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and help create and test genomic analysis tools used in the leading edge of scientific and clinical research. You will participate in the development of high quality, robust products through the integration of hardware, software and chemistry components. You will also design and execute test plans and optimize systems/product performance. A major part of the role will be to work with manufacturing to ensure that our products are fully tested and diagnose any issues through troubleshooting experiments and root cause analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent Systems Integration function on project teams.

  • Engage in the early design of products, provide systems level knowledge to the design team.

  • Develop test plans to verify system/product performance. Independently drive the work to complete engineering or verification studies.

  • Suggest creative solutions to system-level issues. Execute investigational testing to help guide development studies.

  • Continuously & actively share information within project team and may lead team meetings.

  • Fully understand project goals or design inputs to create test protocols & system configurations that satisfy best practices.

  • Author or oversee the writing of protocols and reports.

  • Communicate systems knowledge and learning to broader teams. Guide others to develop and optimize performance by efficiently applying systems expertise with a keen understanding of subsystems, parameters, and biochemistry.

Requirements:

  • 1~2 years of experience in product development

  • A broad scientific knowledge (instrumentation, optics, chemistry, molecular biology, software, etc.) and multidisciplinary approach to problem solving.

  • Demonstrate technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and successfully work across multiple disciplines such as engineering, software and manufacturing

  • Experience giving input to product design at an early stage of development.

  • Experience writing and executing test plans to verify product performance and robustness.

  • Proven skills in analysis of large complex data sets and comfortable with management of large data sets for programs.

  • Willingness to be hands-on.

  • A desire to be a part of a fast paced, multidisciplinary and dynamic environment.

  • Solid communication, presentation and writing skills required.

Experience/Education:

  • Typically requires a PhD degree in Bioengineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular biology or related field with or without prior experience; or a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Bioengineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular biology or related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience
