Senior Principal Scientist - Global Process Development

As a Senior Principal Scientist in the Global Process Development team, you will work across Lonza’s global mammalian network, with a focus on direct collaboration with colleagues in Singapore.   You will be a subject matter expert, specializing in 2 or more relevant areas of upstream or downstream process development science.  We are particularly looking for candidates with experience in late phase development activities such as process characterization, or process validation, applied to different therapeutic protein modalities. Experience of scale-up into manufacturing scale assets is advantageous.  In this role you will work across Lonza’s global mammalian network to lead project that implement technology change or drive cross-site alignment.  You will utilize your expertise to troubleshoot technical challenges across the network, monitor technical performance of the processes and input into the scientific/technical direction and alignment at global level.

Key responsibilities:

• Proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary projects across Lonza network with minimal direction. Communicate effectively at peer level and to non-technical stakeholders. Make and influence decisions amongst peer group

• Lead matrix teams made up of individuals across functions and sites to deliver projects with successful outcomes.

• Provide Subject Matter Expert know-how in 2 or more relevant areas within upstream, downstream and/or bioconjugation for biologic drug substance process development and manufacturing across Lonza’s global Biologics network

• Effectively deliver projects to agreed milestones, scope and budget using lean methods. Demonstrate effective escalation, documentation, risk management and communication.

• Present technical findings and recommendations to external customers in line with SME areas

• Awareness and communication within peer group of Lonza strategy that underpins business growth

• Use available digital tools to query data and drive business efficiencies

• Coach and mentor scientists in Process Development

• Monitor technical performance across the network and address areas of misalignment

Key Requirements:

• A relevant Science degree such as a Bachelor in Biological Sciences / Chemical Engineering / Molecular Biology etc

• Candidates with a PhD in a relevant discipline would have an advantage

• At least 8 years experience in downstream or upstream bioprocessing

• Able to articulate well and communicate abstract concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

• Proven track record of Project management of multi-functional/multi-workstream projects to meet agreed milestones and scope.

• Expereince leading matrix teams to deliver successful outcomes

• Be a subject matter expert in 2 or more relevant areas within upstream, downstream and/or bioconjugation for biologic drug substance process development and manufacturing

• Experience using digital tools to provide advanced data analysis of bioprocesses in development and manufacture

• Experience of using multivariate data analysis to drive process improvement and optimisation

• Use of root cause analysis tools to troubleshoot complex and ambiguous technical issues

• Hands on knowledge of operational activities across multiple technical functions
