The Senior Manager, Fund Accounting & Financial Reporting will be a key member of the team within Asia Investment Operations group responsible for managing all aspects of Fund Accounting, Fund Financial Reporting and Tax matters across the Company's Investment Fund platforms including but not limited to
Position Responsibilities:
Assist with audits of managed funds, pension funds platforms, QFII, SPVs etc. and other BAU matters (Management fees, Trailer fees, Fund expense management etc.).
Review the department’s existing processes periodically to identify areas of improvement and ensure that the operating model governance remains current and accurate.
Develop and execute roadmap to address potential gaps and implement process/policy for collaboration and efficiency within wider Operations group (e.g. promoting synergy between pension fund platform and other Asia platforms).
Support and lead new projects and initiatives across different platforms with focus on automation.
Advice on Fund Accounting workflow for Asia local functions’ process standardization to promote efficiency of Asia’s Fund Accounting & Financial reporting team.
Review of existing processes to explore opportunities for standardization and automation initiatives including engagement with external service providers like Fund Administration, custodians, tax advisors etc.
Assist with annual Tax compliance and implementation of Tax processes for Funds across Asia.
Assist in handling internal control tasks, support and direct tax-related projects including audits and remediation of any potential tax audit issues.
Provide support and advice on tax related aspects such as documentation for withholding tax reclaims; entitlement of tax treaty benefits, Fund GST reclaims, tax implications for new product launches and seed capital
Support the Fund NAV process by implementing rules (e.g. tax provisions, accrued withholding tax liabilities) and oversight of tax reclaims from different investment jurisdictions.
Collaborate with external tax agents and ensure strict adherence to all tax obligations, internal policies and country regulations.
Keep abreast of relevant financial, tax and accounting developments in Asia and share relevant impact on the Funds with stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
University degree with recognized professional designation with majors in accounting.
7+ years’ work experience in financial reporting for investment funds (Prior experience in Big 4 accounting firms strongly preferred).
Strong IFRS/ HKFRS/ Lux GAAP and regulatory financial reporting knowledge in investment funds including tax related issues (Luxemburg, Cayman, Hong Kong, Singapore etc.).
Familiarities of tax laws and upcoming regulatory changes in key Asia jurisdictions Manulife operates in (Singapore, Hong Kong, India, China, Malaysia, etc.) is an asset.
Knowledgeable in Mutual Fund Net Asset Value calculations, fund accounting practices, dividend distribution and fee calculation.
Strong business partnering, interpersonal skills with experience of negotiating and influencing across a wide range of stakeholders.
Excellent command of spoken and written English and Chinese (preferred).
Have an outward-looking, people-oriented personality with great communication skills with the ability to cater a message to various stakeholders, including senior executive and non-technical audiences.
