DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES | About the role

The Senior Legal Counsel APAC is responsible for managing the region’s legal, regulatory and compliance frameworks, ensuring business operations are legally sound, and fully compliant across all APAC jurisdictions. Reporting to the Group General Counsel with a dotted line to the APAC CFO, the role collaborates with Group, Regional, and Country teams to mitigate legal risks, oversee corporate governance and commercial contracts, , manage external legal counsel and advisors, and ensure adherence to evolving regional regulations and statutory reporting requirements.

As the Senior Legal Counsel APAC, you will lead the following activities:

Business Partnering & Commercial Advisory

  • Serve as the trusted legal advisor to C-suite executives, APAC regional leadership, and commercial business units.
  • Embed within cross-functional teams (Sales, Marketing, Procurement, Finance, and Product) to deliver practical, solution-oriented legal advice aligned with regional growth strategies.
  • Conduct interactive legal training and workshops for non-legal business teams on contract processes, risk awareness, and compliance standards.
  • Balance risk mitigation with business objectives to enable swift, commercial decision-making in fast-paced markets.

Commercial Contracts & Negotiation

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of complex commercial agreements (e.g., vendor, supplier, partnership, licensing, distribution, and master service agreements) across various APAC jurisdictions.
  • Standardize contract templates, playbooks, and negotiation guidelines to streamline sales and operational workflows.
  • Provide strategic legal guidance on deal structuring to balance risk management with commercial objectives.

Corporate Governance & Entity Management

  • In collaboration with Group Legal team, manage corporate legal secretarial matters across all APAC regional entities and subsidiaries in compliance with local regulations.
  • Oversee board meetings, shareholder documentation, director appointments, and corporate filings.
  • Support corporate reorganizations, entity setups, and joint venture structures within the region.

Regulatory Compliance & Data Privacy

  • Monitor regional regulatory developments and advise business leadership on legal, operational, and reputational risks.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with local data protection and privacy laws (e.g., Singapore PDPA, GDPR compliance for cross-border data transfers, and regional equivalents).
  • Develop and maintain internal policies, including anti-bribery/FCPA, anti-money laundering (AML), and trade sanction compliance.

Dispute Resolution & Litigation Management

  • Manage pre-litigation disputes, arbitration, and active litigation matters across APAC jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with and supervise outside legal counsel to ensure cost-effective and high-quality representation.
  • Formulate litigation strategy and negotiate settlement terms to safeguard the company’s legal and financial position.

Employment & Labour Law

  • Advise HR and business stakeholders on employment related matters including items such as APAC labour laws, employment contracts, performance management, and terminations.
  • Support HR where required in managing employment related matters such as labour disputes, employee grievances, and workplace investigations across offices within the region.

Strategic Projects & M&A Support

  • Conduct legal due diligence and provide legal support for regional mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic investments.
  • Assist with cross-border integration of newly acquired entities and assets in the APAC region.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE | About you

The ideal Senior Legal Counsel APAC will have

  • Qualified lawyer with minimum 7 to 10 years of relevant legal experience.
  • Strong background in commercial and corporate law.
  • Experience within an international law firm and/or multinational organization is highly desirable.
  • A Master's degree from a British or American university would be an advantage.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail, accuracy and compliance.
  • Outstanding communication, influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Commercially minded and business-oriented, capable of balancing legal risk with practical business outcomes.
  • Able to operate both strategically and hands-on, acting as a trusted business partner while supporting day-to-day operational needs.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of integrity, ethics and professional judgment.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, complex and highly international environment across diverse cultures and jurisdictions.
