We seek a talented, highly motivated Senior Director for Energy, Climate and Resources (ECR), based in Asia to lead the practice.
The candidate should be motivated to help the world’s premier companies understand Asia and Africa, find alignment with customers, communities and key stakeholders by considering the ideas and capabilities of top tier companies that want to invest. This position will report to BGA’s Vice President, based in Singapore.
Position Responsibilities
The Senior Director for Energy, Climate and Resources is a critically important leadership role in a fast-paced and expanding sector practice. This role has responsibility for engaging the world’s leading companies and organizations and crafting advisory services that advance their business priorities while making an impact in the Indo-Pacific and Africa regions. Senior Directors lead BGA’s global agenda for the growth of their sector, leveraging subject matter expertise and knowledge of global business trends, issues and opportunities impacting Companies. Their work includes developing trust and effective working relationships with clients, structuring value-added solutions to business-limiting problems, developing and executing BGA’s global sector strategy, and the contributing insights and ideas into all aspects of our work. Senior Directors provide thought leadership and strategy, both as it relates to clients in their sector and the overall development of BGA.
Manage and Grow Client Relationships
- Develop a highly sophisticated understanding of clients’ business models and the challenges and opportunities they represent in the policy and regulatory arena.
- Establish trusting relationships with the people with whom we work—both internally and externally.
- Build rapport with clients based on a keen understanding of their personalities, their companies and what they need to be successful.
- Engage in high-level business diplomacy with stakeholders from businesses, government, and civil society at all levels.
- Liaise with senior executives and officials representing BGA and its clients.
Energy Portfolio Management
- Develop sector strategy and provide input throughout the budget cycle.
- Manage and expand energy client portfolio by ensuring best in-class advisory service, products, and analysis.
- Lead client teams and engage country leaders to drive collaboration across 26 country offices.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and develop regional energy sector team.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Engage in high-level business diplomacy with stakeholders from businesses, government, and civil society at all levels.
- Liaise with senior executives and officials representing BGA and its clients.
Subject Matter Expertise
- Leverage subject matter expertise at the intersection of the energy transition, technological pathways, policymaking and corporate strategy.
- Monitor and analyze the impact of local policy, geopolitics, and global trends on the energy sector in the Indo-Pacific and Africa.
- Manage development of political-economic risk analysis and forecasting; government affairs and public policy strategizing; and deliver them in written products and client briefings.
Profile Building
- Raise the profile of BGA by speaking, writing, and engaging with government, business, media, universities, think-tanks, business councils and associations, etc.
Job Requirements
The senior director position combines client relations with the skills and responsibilities required for internal management and leadership. The ideal candidate can work independently to lead a team and engage with stakeholders inside and outside of BGA in high-pressure situations. He/she can effectively set priorities and execute them, and should be a highly self-motivated, dedicated team player with a supportive approach to leadership. She/he should feel comfortable interacting with a range of interlocutors and should enjoy the various challenges of supporting large multinational corporations operating in the Indo-Pacific and Africa. The ability to interact effectively in a fast-paced environment, while remaining flexible, proactive and efficient, is crucial to this role.
Qualifications Include:
- 15+ years’ experience working in a relevant policy area with strong background in energy, climate, clean tech, etc. Previous government service and/or consulting and/or government relations experience strongly preferred.
- Outstanding written and verbal communications skills in fluent English; proficiency in an Asian language is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and familiarity working in multicultural settings. Experience working in and with Asian countries and languages preferred.
- Aptitude for public speaking and project presentations.
- Superb and self-confident interpersonal skills, including with international counterparts.
- Proficiency in MS Office and basic internet applications are required, as is enthusiasm and ability to learn and adopt new technologies.
- Education: Minimum bachelor’s degree; graduate degree in business, public policy, public affairs, international affairs, journalism, or related fields is preferred. The position reports to the vice president for business development.
