About the position
Aurora Energy Research is seeking a Senior Commercial Associate to drive the growth of our Financial Institutions business across the APAC. Working within Aurora's Global Financial Institutions Team, you will develop strategic relationships with leading financial institutions supporting the energy transition across APAC. You will own Aurora's APAC Financial Institutions portfolio, managing a combination of strategic accounts and high-priority prospects. You will lead complex commercial engagements and work closely with Aurora's market leads, research, advisory, software, and product teams to support investment and financing decisions across the region. This is a highly autonomous role suited to an experienced commercial professional who combines strong relationship-building skills with dedication, strategic mindset, excellent business development capabilities, and a genuine interest in energy markets and project finance. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Account Management
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across major financial institutions in your region.
- Develop a deep understanding of client organisations, priorities, challenges, and decision-making processes.
- Expand Aurora's relationships across multiple stakeholder groups to maximise account value and long-term retention.
- Drive cross-selling and upselling opportunities across Aurora's subscription, software, advisory, and bankability offerings.
Business Development & Commercial Growth
- Lead business development activities with major financial institutions across APAC, generating new opportunities and expanding Aurora's regional footprint.
- Develop and execute account and market engagement strategies for strategic clients, priority prospects, and target financial institution segments across APAC.
- Identify emerging market trends, investment themes, and financing activity to proactively create commercial opportunities.
- Manage the full sales cycle, from opportunity qualification through proposal development, negotiation, contracting, and closing.
- Deliver against individual and team revenue targets.
- Represent Aurora at industry conferences, financing events, client workshops, and stakeholder meetings across APAC.
Bankability
- Help facilitating financing transactions that utilise Aurora's analytics, software, and advisory services.
- Maintain a strong understanding of project finance fundamentals, due diligence processes, lender requirements, and market trends influencing energy investments.
- Contribute to maintaining Aurora's bankability proposition by tracking the use of Aurora's analysis in financing transactions and sharing insights across teams.
- Organise banking roundtables and market engagement initiatives that strengthen Aurora's relationships within the financial institutions community.
- Help position Aurora as a trusted thought partner in energy finance and energy market analysis.
- Provide market intelligence and client insights to inform Aurora's product strategy, commercial priorities, and regional growth plans.
Internal Leadership & Collaboration
- Establish yourself as Aurora's subject matter expert for Financial Institutions and bankability topics within your region.
- Develop and maintain market-specific Financial Institutions and Bankability Strategies for key APAC markets, including tailored approaches to client engagement, marketing and content.
- Collaborate closely with Market Leads and Aurora's research, advisory, software, product, and commercial teams to execute regional strategies.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of commercial processes, tools, and ways of working across the Global FI Team and the wider commercial organisation.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Required attributes:
- Strong commercial mindset with a proven track record in business development, sales, and account management.
- Demonstrated ability to build credibility and long-term relationships with senior stakeholders at financial institutions.
- Excellent coordination, communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to operate independently and drive outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly organised, proactive, and resilient, with strong attention to detail.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and functions.
- Passion for delivering exceptional client experiences and building long-term partnerships.
- Strong interest in energy markets, project finance, infrastructure investment, and the energy transition, with a proactive approach to continuous learning and development.
- Fluency in English and additional APAC language capabilities, particularly Japanese, Mandarin, Korean.
Experience - 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, account management, client relationship management, or related commercial roles.
- Experience working with financial institutions, infrastructure investors, financial advisors, project finance teams, or energy market participants.
- Demonstrated success managing strategic client relationships, executing account strategies, and delivering commercial growth.
- Experience negotiating commercial agreements and structured proposals.
- Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM systems.
Desirable attributes:
- Existing network within APAC-based banks, financial advisors, infrastructure investors, debt funds, insurers, or energy-focused financial institutions.
- Understanding of project finance, debt financing, due diligence, or investment processes within renewable energy, storage, power markets, or broader energy infrastructure. ·
- Experience selling subscription-based research, software, data, analytics, consulting, or information services.
- Exposure to APAC power markets and energy market fundamentals.
- Experience developing market engagement or commercial growth strategies.
