Whom We Are Looking For

We are seeking an experienced Scrum Master to support large-scale agile delivery in the Air Traffic Management (ATM) domain. The successful candidate will facilitate cross-team collaboration, ensure regulatory compliance in agile delivery, and enable continuous improvement across distributed, safety-critical programs. This role requires both deep agile expertise and domain awareness of aviation systems to balance incremental delivery with operational safety and regulatory obligations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Scrum ceremonies, Scrum of Scrums, and Program Increment (PI) Planning sessions.
  • Support Agile Release Trains (ART) and/or Solution Trains under SAFe frameworks.
  • Manage dependencies and cross-team risks in multi-vendor, multi-site environments
  • Ensure traceability from backlog items to certification and safety case artefacts
  • Collaborate with operational experts (ATCOs, regulators, safety assessors) to incorporate compliance needs.
  • Mentor Product Owners, engineers and stakeholders on agile practices.
  • Foster a culture of psychological safety, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Actively remove impediments and escalate blockers across organizational boundaries.
  • Support CI/CD practices adapted for traceability, re-producibility and regulatory auditability.
  • Track and communicate progress using flow-based metrics (predictability, throughput, lead time).
  • Facilitate retrospectives that address not only team performance but also system safety and regulatory outcomes.
  • Drive incremental organizational change aligned with enterprise agility.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM, PSM) and/or SAFe Scrum Master (SSM); SAFe RTE a plus.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Scrum Master, including at least 2 years in large-scale agile programs.
  • Experience in safety-critical or regulated industries (aviation, rail, defense, healthcare).
  • Knowledge of ED-109/DO-278A and safety-critical software standards desirable.
  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.

Essential / Desirable Traits

  • Possess learning agility, flexibility and pro-activity
  • Comfortable with agile teamwork and user engagement
  • Strong leadership and change management skills
  • Metrics-driven improvement mindset.
  • Systems and technical literacy.
  • Align agile delivery with the following aviation standards (ED-109/DO-278a).

At Thales, we’re committed to fostering a workplace where respect, trust, collaboration, and passion drive everything we do. Here, you’ll feel empowered to bring your best self, thrive in a supportive culture, and love the work you do. Join us, and be part of a team reimagining technology to create solutions that truly make a difference – for a safer, greener, and more inclusive world.
