We are currently looking for a Scientist to join our Molecular Sciences Group. Resourceful individuals with wide-ranging scientific interests, who enjoy a fast-paced, hard-charging, but fun and collaborative interdisciplinary research environment will be a good fit. As part of the team, you will be developing future sequencing and library preparation biochemistries with a focus on enzymatic processes.
Position Summary
As a Scientist within Illumina’s Research and Development team, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary research team to help create new sequencing methods. Primary responsibilities include research and development of new sequencing chemistry, workflow, reagents, as well as purification and analytical characterization of molecules such as proteins and DNA oligos through biomolecular techniques and biochemical assays.
Responsibilities:
Performs experiments of varying complexity and across a broad array of techniques, foresees issues and works to overcome obstacles to completing tasks or assignments
Plans, conducts, summarizes, reports consistent conclusions to aid in team decision-making
Contribute to ongoing internal research projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
Keeps detailed lab notebooks, prepare reports, updates, and summaries for managers and teams as directed

Requirements:
Able to readily apply experiential knowledge to develop new or adapt existing technology and processes
Highly proficient, productive, and effective in the lab with 2 years relevant lab experience
Ability to design complex experiments containing appropriate controls to anticipate potential problems; able to troubleshoot issues
Strong ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines with team members and internal customers
Communicates effectively in various environments with different stakeholders; tailoring communications and presentations as necessary

Preferred Skills and Experience:
Experienced in biochemical assays such as fluorescence-based assays and protein characterization techniques such as protein purification, SDS-PAGE, and enzyme characterizations
Experienced in molecular biology techniques such as PCR and qPCR
Knowledge and experience in bioconjugation chemistry
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt according to the requirement of new projects
Good communication skills
A “can do” attitude, and game to take on new challenges
Industrial experience is highly desirable
Education:
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, biochemistry, or life sciences with relevant lab experience; or an advanced degree without experience
