The School of Social Sciences (SSS) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant (Psychology/Education) on a 24-month contract basis, renewable subject to performance and project needs.
Project Title: Profiling Academic Trajectories and Heterogeneity of Low-Progress Learners for Enhancing Learning Support (PATHS)
Project Introduction: The PATHS study is a Ministry of Education (MOE)-funded longitudinal investigation tracking 500–600 Primary 1 students enrolled in the Learning Support Programme (LSP) and/or Learning Support for Mathematics (LSM) across 20+ Singapore primary schools. Using person-centred analytic models, the study identifies heterogeneous learner subgroups across cognitive, literacy, mathematical, and socio-emotional domains, and examines how these profiles evolve and predict academic outcomes. Findings will inform more targeted, evidence-based support for low-progress learners.
The Research Assistant will support the day-to-day implementation of this large-scale study under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
Key Responsibilities:
Liaise with participating primary schools and coordinate day-to-day research operations
Administer psychoeducational assessments and experimental tasks one-to-one with students
Distribute, collect, and track parent and teacher questionnaires
Maintain research records; support data entry, cleaning, and quality checking
Assist with ethics documentation, literature searches, research reports, and stakeholder materials
Train and coordinate part-time student research assistants during data collection
Perform administrative and procurement tasks as required by the Principal Investigator
Job Requirements:
Essential:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, Sociology, or a related field
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; good command of spoken and written English - essential for data analysis and communication with stakeholders
Well-organised, self-motivated, and able to meet deadlines; willing to travel to school sites
Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Word)
Preferred:
Prior experience administering psychometric or psychoeducational assessments to children
Experience conducting school-based research or working with young children (Primary 1–3 level)
Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., SPSS/jamovi/JASP, R) and data management
