The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School’s primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.

Shen Lab at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), is a research group developing bioinformatics/AI methods for multi-omics and wearable-data integration in precision medicine. The key objective is to support efforts to integrate multi-omics/clinical data and build AI models that enable personalized prediction of health outcomes, such as IVF success prediction, to improve decision-making and patient care.

We are looking for a Research Assistant/Associate to support a university research collaboration on applying machine learning to predict IVF treatment outcomes using health-check data and Chinese clinical reports. The role will focus on coordinating data-related communication with hospital partners, ensuring high-quality and compliant data preparation, and delivering reproducible baseline analyses that enable rigorous research and translation of findings into improved healthcare decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for coordinating day-to-day communication with hospital partners in Mandarin Chinese (clinical, research, and data/IT teams).

  • Responsible for coordinating secure data delivery and transfer logistics (formats, encryption, access controls, schedules) and maintaining an action tracker.

  • Formulate and implement data cleaning and harmonization workflows for structured health-check data (units, missingness, duplicates, outliers, ID linkage).

  • Devise and maintain a reproducible ETL pipeline with version control and data quality reporting.

  • Develop and evaluate baseline predictive models (e.g., logistic regression, gradient boosting) with appropriate splits and reporting of standard performance metrics.

  • Formulate and maintain structured input templates and formatting specifications for large language model processing of Chinese clinical narratives (e.g., defining task instructions, output schemas, and consistency checks)

Required educational qualification, experience, skills and competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Engineering, Public Health, or a related field

  • Strong hands-on experience in data cleaning and preparation for machine learning is required

  • Familiarity with handling healthcare/clinical data and research workflows

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Mandarin Chinese (required) to liaise with hospital stakeholders; working proficiency in English (required) for documentation and internal reporting

  • Proficiency in programming for data processing and analysis (e.g., Python with pandas/numpy, R, Julia, or other suitable languages) and experience working with tabular datasets. Basic ML knowledge (baseline models, leakage-aware splits, ROC-AUC/PR-AUC, calibration) is preferred.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills: ability to work independently, manage multiple stakeholders, maintain clear communication logs/action trackers, and deliver high-quality outputs under timelines; meticulous attention to detail

  • Entry level candidates are welcome to apply
