We are looking for a Research Assistant to support research in AI-enabled seismic data analysis. The role will focus on conducting fieldwork operations, preprocessing seismic data, developing and applying AI-based tools for ambient noise data analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct geophysical fieldwork, including the deployment, operation, and maintenance of seismic stations and associated equipment for field data acquisition.
Develop, implement, and optimize artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for the automatic extraction of surface-wave dispersion curves from continuous seismic recordings.
Design and maintain automated seismic data processing pipelines for large-scale datasets acquired from seismic networks in Singapore and Japan.
Manage, curate, and quality-control seismic datasets, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.
Support advanced seismic imaging and subsurface characterization by integrating AI-based dispersion analysis with conventional seismic processing techniques.
Evaluate and validate AI models using synthetic and field datasets, and benchmark their performance against existing methods.
Prepare technical documentation, software packages, research reports, and publications, and present research findings at project meetings and scientific conferences when required.
Collaborate effectively with researchers, students, and external collaborators to achieve project objectives and undertake other duties assigned by the Principal Investigator.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in geophysics, computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, mathematics, software engineering, or a related discipline.
Strong programming skills in Python and experience with software development for data analysis or machine learning applications.
Knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow is highly desirable.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop computational solutions for scientific research problems.
Strong proficiency in geophysical field surveys, seismic data acquisition, and seismic data processing.
Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team.
Entry-level candidates with strong academic records and demonstrated potential in AI and software development are welcome to apply.
