Overview of Role

The Regional Operations Manager (RoM) is a key role within the Energy Operations department, reporting directly to the Global Operations Manager (GoM).  This position, based in Singapore, is responsible for managing, monitoring, and coordinating the activities of the APAC operations team, to ensure that physical trades are executed safely and cost-effectively according to contractual terms.

Ensuring that the team are able to effectively and efficiently contribute to the company's goals and objectives, you will be responsible for identifying and managing operational risk, business priorities and more.  To achieve this, you will collaborate with a diverse group of people from across the organization, both regionally and globally.

Commercial aptitude, effective communication with stakeholders and a compliance-first approach are essential to driving this positive, respectful and motivated team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the activities of physical operations teams, ensuring safe and cost-effective execution of physical trades.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for the operations group, fostering a positive and driven team environment.
  • Conduct regular team and stakeholder meetings to identify, address and resolve operational issues, escalating them as necessary.
  • Drive timely and accurate entry of trading data into systems, manage exceptions and report on challenges.
  • Review team workload, coverage requirements / vacation plans and general resourcing to achieve department and company goals.
  • Lead regional recruitment for the department and participate in the development of graduates.
  • Identify and develop training to respond to the needs of the team, fostering employee growth through training and development programs.
  • Ensure adherence to group and operations procedures and guidelines; generating or revising processes and procedures as needed.
  • Lead the team with a strong focus on compliance. Identify and escalate any failings.

Profile

The individual should have the following experience:

  • Over 10 years of commodities operational experience in a global oil trading company, with at least 3 years in Oil Operations Management.
  • Proven leadership skills, capable of teaching and training, and able to coordinate a group.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of working with multiple commodities in the energy sector; relevant processes, procedures, regulations.
  • Superior understanding of petroleum product specifications, analytical methods, inspection procedures.
  • Detailed experience of a variety of transport modes, including maritime, road, rail; storage, blending, quality and quantity management.
  • Strong understanding of Contract and Maritime Law, the types of finance instruments used in commodity trading and the importance of LOI’s and Shipping documents essential.
  • Project management experience, IT savvy / analytical skills.
  • Fluent in English.  Mandarin desirable.
