Thales is a global technology leader trusted by governments, institutions, and enterprises to tackle their most demanding challenges. From quantum applications and artificial intelligence to cybersecurity and 6G innovation, our solutions empower critical decisions rooted in human intelligence. Operating at the forefront of aerospace and space, cybersecurity and digital identity, we’re driven by a mission to build a future we can all trust.

In Singapore, Thales has been a trusted partner since 1973, originally focused on aerospace activities in the Asia-Pacific region. With 2,000 employees across three local sites, we deliver cutting-edge solutions across aerospace (including air traffic management), defence and security, and digital identity and cybersecurity sectors. Together, we’re shaping the future by enabling customers to make pivotal decisions that safeguard communities and power progress.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled Quantum Applications Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing quantum computing solutions aimed at enhancing aircraft and drone traffic management systems, as well as radar signal processing. This position involves close collaboration with researchers  specializing in quantum algorithms and air traffic management, along with system integration teams, to transform advanced quantum computing concepts into practical, real-world applications ready for deployment. Additionally, there will be opportunities to engage with academic partners from local research institutes and with customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and optimise quantum algorithms tailored to solve challenges in aircraft and drone traffic management, as well as for radar systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify use cases where quantum computing can provide a competitive advantage or enhanced performance.
  • Implement and test quantum algorithms using quantum simulators and available quantum hardware platforms.
  • Analyse classical and quantum data to improve air traffic flow optimisation, collision avoidance, radar signal detection, and classification.
  • Support integration of quantum solutions with existing aerospace systems and infrastructure.
  • Stay current with advancements in quantum computing hardware, software, and methods relevant to aerospace applications.
  • Prepare documentation, technical reports, and presentations to communicate findings and progress to stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Quantum Computing, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong  knowledge  of  quantum  computing  principles,  quantum optimisation  algorithms(e.g., QAOA, VQE, etc.), and quantum programming frameworks (e.g., Qiskit, Qadence, Merlin, etc.).
  • Experience in aerospace domains such as air traffic management, drone operations, or radar systems is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in classical programming languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with signal processing, optimisation algorithms, and traffic management systems.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Experience with quantum hardware platforms (IBM Quantum, D-Wave, Pasqal, Quandela, etc.) is a plus.

At Thales, we’re committed to fostering a workplace where respect, trust, collaboration, and passion drive everything we do. Here, you’ll feel empowered to bring your best self, thrive in a supportive culture, and love the work you do. Join us, and be part of a team reimagining technology to create solutions that truly make a difference – for a safer, greener, and more inclusive world.
