As a TCAD Engineer in the DRAM Device Technology group at Micron Technology, Inc., you will work with an industry-leading team to model, simulate, and understand advanced semiconductor devices and processes for future memory products.
You will be responsible for physics-based device simulation, supporting technology development by providing quantitative insight into device behavior, variability, and reliability through TCAD tools.
Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Develop and apply TCAD simulations to analyze advanced semiconductor devices including DRAM access devices, CMOS devices, diodes, and resistive elements.
  • Build 2D/3D device structures, define physical models (transport, recombination, traps, mobility, quantum effects, etc.), and perform parametric studies to support device and process development.
  • Correlate TCAD simulation results with electrical characterization data to clarify physical mechanisms behind performance, variability, and reliability trends.
  • Investigate impacts of process variations, material properties, defects, and interface states on device characteristics.
  • Support development teams by providing physics-based interpretation and predictive simulation results for technology decisions.
  • Propose and validate new TCAD methodologies, simulation flows, and calibration strategies for next-generation memory technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with device integration, process development, product engineering, and E-characterization teams to ensure meaningful simulation-to-silicon correlation.
  • Automate simulation workflows and data analysis using scripting and programming tools when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications / Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in semiconductor device simulation or technology development.
  • Strong background in semiconductor device physics and numerical simulation methods.
  • Hands-on experience with TCAD tools (e.g., Synopsys Sentaurus, Silvaco Atlas, or equivalent).
  • Ability to perform detailed parametric analysis and extract physical insight from simulation results.
  • Experience correlating TCAD results with experimental data is highly valued.
  • Motivation and capability to learn new device architectures and technologies.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Expectations (any one of):
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages (Python, Tcl, C++, etc.) for simulation automation and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of advanced physical modeling, such as trap-related effects, variability, reliability, or quantum effects.
  • Understanding of process integration and fabrication flows and their impact on device behavior.
  • Experience with 3D device simulations and large-scale simulation data handling.
  • Using AI techniques for parameter extraction, model calibration, sensitivity analysis, or surrogate modeling
  • Interest in combining TCAD, large-scale simulation data, and AI-based approaches to improve development efficiency

Education:
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent experience
